They are what you want them to be! This is my first time raising chickens, and I love it but it has also been hard! I have raised rabbits and a few pigs from time to time for the food! My wife would get all nicey nice with them and I would have to remind her that was dinner she was making...
she is about 19-20 weeks! I wasn't really expecting her to give us an egg right after her loseing all her men!!! I thought she would take a bit longer.
We had 4 RIR we got as chics from the feed store and 3 of them turned out to be Roo's, so into the soup pot they went. So Luna has been a bit sad the past week:( but to my suprise she had left us a nice med. sized egg today!! Just kinda neat it being our first egg:) I would really hate to add...
I was wondering if anyone had some pullets in or around Lakeland? We had 4 RIR but 3 of them had turned out to be Roo's, we can't have roo's where we are at. Our litle hen is in need of some friends, I could take up to 3 of them but would be just fine with one or two.
thanks for your help or any...
Tell your neighbor to pound sand!! Start passing out some those fresh free range eggs to all your other neigbors! Remember you can not keep everyone happy, These folks sound like they are unhappy and they think they get to take out there frustration out on you. I would stand my ground and keep...
The changing table will be good start for nesting boxes. You say you have 40 chickens are they all hens? If so we are going to need a good amount of nesting boxes!! The doors, are they metal on the outside?
martin
No problem! We will get you through it! take step by step. Clean shed out first work on the nesting boxes and roost and we will walk through the doors when you reach that point. This will be very easy!

can you post a pic of the hinges on the doors, the hardware that holds the door to the shed! Sorry all but I suck at spelling! Going to need place some presure treated 2x4 or some bricks under that door to fill in that gap. A easy way to keep those doors closed would be a 2x4 across the doors...
Cut a hole into the side of the shed that is next to the run. Keep the part you cut out to make a door for you can lock them up at night. Connect the shed to the run with some chicken wire or some spare lumber you might have laying around. In the shed get a small table or something you can place...
Paint ball gun might help you a bit or get yourself a cattle prod and give the dog a good zap in the but!! You can also leash there dog and call animal control to come and pick up a "stray dog that is chasing your chickens". Hope it works out for you!

Ya I think thats what it was! When I saw it, I felt it and was a bit hard. Thats what made me worry a bit but I just went back out and it is soft and spongy! So I felt up the rest of the hens and felt the same. I was picking the them all up to put up for the night and panic a bit, thanks

As I was putting up the chicks tonight I noticed on the right side of the breast was alot bigger than the left side. It is very notice-able should I be worried, what might it be???/???

Thanks, I know on the bag it says at 10 weeks to change to grower and thats just three weeks away! I was just wondering if it is too early to start them on that now? I have to go buy feed today and dont want a half bag of starter leftover.
