We ha
no the shells of her eggs are fine. There are times they land in places they cannot reach and shells are there but cracked from the fall.
i have 10 boxes for 15 hens. I would be surprised if she was being bullied away. I tried her back in quarantine because she kept jumping up on the...
She is my only Brahma. We have not had any other issues to my knowledge. We have heard coyotes off in the distance a few evenings through the month but nothing close. We had some crusty butt issues a few weeks back but i appear to have that taken care of. Same food, but of course i will start...
They were eating an egg, she had just laid it from the top roost and it splattered and shattered. There was the left over on the poop tray and the rest of the pieces were over the floor. This is where she lays though and the others have come to expect it. Being home i can collect eggs more often...
So it’s been at least a month and it’s still an issue. And honestly i am getting less and less eggs. I have 15 layers and got 8, then 6 and now 4 a day. I do have a broody so i am counting her out of my expectations. Today i walked in to collect eggs and there was a frenzy under the poop board...
So i thought i had all my spring chickens from last year identified. And i thought everyone was laying. But today i found an extra blue/green egg and it wasn’t from yesterday. These are the 2 chickens in question that might have just decided to lay!🤣 so...what breed are these chickens and what...
The opening is 7in x9 in. And there are low ones and higher ones. The space in side is 12x10 on the bottom and at least 12x12 in the top. And with the angled roof gives lots of extra head room.
Right now she is making the trip to my highest roost bar, which for a big chicken, is a great feat...
How big is the opening for the nest box? I am certain the inside is plenty big enough but as i was watching her move around the roost bar to get in and out i just wondered if maybe she was too big. She was a spring chick last year but never started to lay before the days got short. So now that...
So i have a light Brahma in my mixed flock of 15. She has been laying her eggs on the highest roost bar. Which generally means they fall and break. Which then means the others eat it. And i am not trying to start an egg eating frenzy so this is concerning me. I was in the coop today just...
I am removing the dry clumpy poo. I am doing a full body check on the hens i have been working on and there does not appear to be any signs of lice or mites. They look good in every aspect other than the crusty butt.
my old farm neighbor said he though it was a sign of worms. So i did his old...
Months ago we switched feed because the co-op was out of what we use. Luckily i had enough of the old feed that i could mix it before using it full feed. But then i ended up staying with this one. I don’t recall at what point in the switching process that i noticed.
So my mixed flock of 15 1-3 year old hens have some crusty butts all of a sudden. Pop seems to be clumping on their fluffy butt feathers and i find my self removing unwanted pop more often then i care. I have examined them for mites and lice and don’t seem to see any. They are all eating well...
Omg that’s so funny. And a hilarious suggestion. Wouldn’t that be something to see me running around the yard the the umbrella squawking obscenities at them. I would like to get a live feed of my neighbors on the edge of the property. They think i am a little nuts anyways🤣
Lol. Yeah trust me i have done all the things only weirdos do. The dogs will chase them off for awhile. I have shouted, chased thrown rocks and an empty bucket. But all temporary solutions.
So since a few weeks ago we have had giant flicks of birds taking residence on our property. We have 3 acres and it is absolutely covered! Generally we get some flocks as they travel through but these ones are in no hurry to leave. I think maybe they are starlings or black birds. They are...
