I have 3 SS hens, and a couple weeks ago I noticed one of them hobbling around. (They are two years old).
Today I noticed why...she has a fourth toe that has grown out. Any explanations? Anybody else have this happen?
Question: how much shelter and warmth does Muscovy ducks require? I have a chance at 2 males and 5 females that the owner says he does not have adequate "shelter". help anyone?
I've noticed that my 4 hens are not laying their "quota" lately. One of them is making a coo noise and has a pale looking comb. The other 3 have bright red combs and cluck their heads off. Is this normal?
I am feeding Layena.
I've got three WH's that are about two months old now.
I had a small pool for them to play in and that seemed to be fine with them. However, I thought they would like a bigger pool, so I substituted a larger pool. They won't get in.
Is it the depth, or the height of the edge? Or.......
I've had Mallards before, but this is the first time for Welshies.
I taught my Mallards to "get on the bus" (meaning get into the cage for transport to the pool) and they got it right away.
My new Welshies, however, when I use the same technique, seem to be ah, well..., sorta, retarded...
If you have been following any of my posts, I lost my mallards to a mink all in one night last October.
I have been tossing around "ducks or not" since then. Well, today I pushed the oder button and have 3 Welsh Harlequin females shipping from Metzer's in May.
(My DH is gonna kill me, but so...
This morning I found one of my SS hens laying near the waterer. She was drinking little bit at a time and very lethargic.
I picked her up and felt her tummy. She then squirted some running milk-ish looking stool. What is it? Egg bound?
I posted this under the watering/feeding section this...

Curious as to why everyone likes a certain breed or breeds. I had mallards, but wondering if a different breed would be "better".
My mallards met an horrific end by a mink attack late October this year. I am currently thinking about getting more ducks this spring, but would like to know what...
All my mallards and one rouen were killed last night in the garage which I thought was predator proof! I think it's a rat. I have put out poison and got a few of them, but one or more mean SOBS are still there. I am afraid for my chickens now.
I am so angry and sad!!!!!!!!
I am staring a new thread. My question is: do all duck eggs taste the same? Or do different breeds have different tastes?
Also, does what the duck eats make the difference? Inquiring minds want to know...........

Wifezilla, it's been a pleasure reading this thread! Keep us up to date. I am subscribed.
You have inspired me to clean out the kiddie pools! My ducks aren't particular to the looks of their "pond(s)", so I let them make a total...
