My backyard is only 100 ft wide so that is the main problem right there. Even in the front yard it wouldn't be enough space

    Arizona Chickens

The neighbor complained of feathers in her yard which is funny cuz everytime the wind blows the leaves and pods from her tree end up in my yard and pool. Anyway my coop is situated on the far east side of my house and that neighbor said he has no problem with the chickens but the officer said...

Not really because the statute says you have to have the coop 75 feet away from all residences. We have the coop on one side of the house next to neighbors that said they didn't mind and never complained. I explained that to animal control and he said it didn't matter. Even if the neighbors...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Well I for one am very interested in the subject. We have had chickens for only a couple of years and a year ago my son said he wanted to see if we could get a hen to hatch some eggs so we purchased 2 silver laced wyandottes and 2 spotted sussex. I was planning on waiting until next spring to...

Vicious Dog Attack, Puncture wounds on hen

We had that same problem a couple of years ago. We lost 2 but one wasn't as badly injured but you could see her bare skin and she had puncture wounds. We kept her isolated and kept food and water near by. We also offered her meal worms which were her favorite and some plain yogurt which she...

Raising Baby Chicks - Notable Topic Index - Please Review

We have pretty much determined that one of our chickens is a rooster. My first instinct was to find him another home but my 13 year old son wants to try and get some baby chicks. We have only had chickens for a year so having a rooster is very foreign to me. Should I keep the rooster...

I need help with my rhode island red

Ok I think my Rhode Island Red hen is molting. Her appetitie has decreased, she isn't laying eggs and she pretty much lays around most of the day. My concern is I noticed tonight that she isn't roosting she is laying down under the roost box. Is this normal? Thanks Diane

    Arizona Chickens

I live in Mesa and have had chickens or a year. We had our first summer last year. Our coop is in a very shaded area between 2 citrus trees. We make sure they have lots of water and we bought one of those portable misters and when it reaches 95 we turn the mister on. We didn't lose any...

anyone else get really excited to collect eggs?

Guilty as charged. Being around my chickens is so relaxing and collecting eggs is an added bonus. We jut built a larger coop and just added the nesting boxes so obviously we were all excited when we found an egg in the new nesting box and a chicken in one of the other boxes.
