She’s been sitting 5 weeks. Now what?

I have a hen that’s been sitting for 5 weeks on the same eggs. She’s so upset, feathers ruffled, when she comes out to eat. What do I do? How long will she go on? We have never had eggs hatch before, or not hatch.

is Dumor (dumour) a good feed brand?

We also offered oyster sgell AND calcium carbonate on the side and mixed into the feed. The shells were thin when we fed Dumor, regardless.

is Dumor (dumour) a good feed brand?

Yes!!! Us too! Last spring we started having losses. 2 and 3 year old chickens just dying. After sending several to the lab they were all dying from “reproductive organ failure “ due to eggs breaking inside the chickens and setting up infection. We switched to Purina Layena and have the...

The scoundrels are eating them! we decided to check every half hour today and got 9 eggs, counting the three we caught them eating. Will be checking every 10 min starting tomorrow. We have rubber and ceramic eggs in the boxes. But they keep kicking the rubber ones out of the nests! LOL...

Our chickens stopped dying or reproductive organ failure when we switched to this feed.

I had not heard that about Dumor. I did speak extensively with several co-op representatives about it. All of them insisted, even after further research, that they had never heard a complaint like ours. I did not even think to contact Dumor. We tried to buy the co-op brand feed the most...

LOL! So sorry! It's Dumor not Dupont. I need to correct that in the post. According to Purina mills website and Tractor Supply's website they both have 16% protein.

We've been watching for signs of pecking on each other and have seen nothing. It seems like nearly all of the two and three year old chickens are molting right now. That's around 20 birds. But nobody is showing signs of getting pecked on.

There were 10,000 in her trash bag. Probably at least half of them were dumped out when I caught her.

We are in Hartsville, Tennessee, about 15 minutes from KY. They said they picked up as many as they could, but when I just mentioned what will happen when they dry up the kids said they should go back and check to make sure they can get more up, so I doubt they did their best. Probably best...

I have pictures of the coop on my phone. Will post them in a few minutes. it's big enough, but by no means what they are used to as far as free ranging. They are probably just stressed.

They are mostly easy to break. But occasionally they will get a tough one. As long as they have rocks in their gizzards they will probably break down fine. I guess I'm going to have to give in in this game of "chicken" and let them have a little more natural daylight action.

Thanks y'all. In the past, my daddy just used a 100 watt bulb to entice egg production. He only had heritage breeds. So, that's what we are using. I didn't know there was a difference. What kind of bulb would you recommend? I won't use a heat lamp. Too risky. We decided to push back to a...

My 4-Hers have golden sexlinks, black sexlinks, and red sexlinks, that they get through the Chick Chain each year. They have has as many as 60 birds. They have 47 right now. They sell the eggs and this money is used for spending as well as college/"flying the coop" savings. A year ago we...

They are eating and drinking normal amounts of food and water. We aren't seeing any lethargic ladies either. So that's all good. Maybe they are just mad because we are keeping them confined. They usually get let out at 6:30 am and go up whenever they please. We are letting them out at 4pm...

They are supposedly non toxic to humans and dogs. So I am hoping non toxic to chickens, but wondering how easily they could cause impacted crops or eggs.

They are not broody. A lot of the older chickens are molting, and I was hoping the stress of being confined all week with hardly any outdoor time (just before dusk) might be stressing them and causing them to not lay. But I thought after a week of it they'd be laying again. This is the first...

Hi! Stephanie here. I am new and this is my first post. Two of my children have an egg business. They have 47 chickens and have had them for 4 years now. I grew up with chickens all of my childhood. So, I have a little bit of experience with raising chickens. I have joined because I am...
