    Silkie or Silkie/Polish cross?

Oooh sounds very pretty. Now I want to see if I can get a chick with that coloring.

    Silkie or Silkie/Polish cross?

That makes sense. If I were to hatch one of her eggs that is crossed with a silkie then it would come out her coloring?

    Silkie or Silkie/Polish cross?

These chicks hatched June 9th. I know it's way too early to tell what the genders are, so I'm not thinking about that yet. I am curious about coloring/breed though. The pen these two came from have a splash silkie hen, black silkie hen, buff laced hen, mottled cochin. We also have silkie roos...

Silkie developing cataract in one eye

That makes me feel much better. I noticed it this past week. And previous to that I never noticed anything odd. She has, however, been spending a lot of time off raising her baby chick. She's in an enclosed run but she will either stay in the coop or relax in a shady spot away from the others. I...

Silkie developing cataract in one eye

My 3 year old silkie, Inky, has developed a white cloudy area on her eye. It does not seem to bother her at all. I included a picture of her other eye for reference. Could this be a cataract? I posted on FB and someone said maybe she has ocular Mareks. I truly hope that's not the case. She isn't...

    Color/Gender help!

With this chick, I understand there is no way to know the gender at this point. I'm just curious what color this chick may turn out as? The mom is likely our buff-laced polish and the father is either a silkie or mottled cochin. It has feathered feet- I did not check to if there was an extra toe...

    Two new hatches (6/9/23)

My mom noticed that our girl Spinach had been broody for a while. She is a bigger breed of chicken (she's a barred rock and while she's not ginormous, she's not a bantam breed/polish) and we have promised ourselves we will never hatch bigger breed chickens again. So we took the eggs in her coop...

    Blu-kote for mites?

It has been a rough few months!! We've had more issues lately than in all of the time owning chickens. Our crossbeak EE has mites and DE has not been working. I went to TSC today and picked up 'Poultry Protector'. The lady suggested that I get 'Blu-Kote', which I did. I put it on her and I'm...

    Coccidiosis in my white maran

Okay, I'll empty the watering containers tonight and refill them + add in the corrid again.

    Coccidiosis in my white maran

We put ACV in our metal waterers the day before yesterday. Should we empty it and refill all of them?

    Coccidiosis in my white maran

Thank you ❤️ I don't have any pictures right now but I will get one later and post it here. I just gave her more sugar water and did dust her (but won't any more now that you mentioned that). I am hoping that she will make it through the night. I think I found her as she was literally dying this...

    Coccidiosis in my white maran

Thank you! If it is mites/lice/etc. is there any way to seriously treat them? As I've been giving her medicine I also was dusting her with DE as well. We cleaned their coops too. Aside from DE is there any thing we can do for that? We added ACV into their water as well.

    Coccidiosis in my white maran

Bloody or watery diarrhea. Lethargy. Lack of appetite. Pale combs and wattles. Droopy posture and wings. Ruffled or puffed up feathers. Droopy, dull or glazed eyes. These are the symptoms I found on google and they match her almost perfectly. The only one I'm not sure about the first one...

    Coccidiosis in my white maran

It has been a rough month or so for us when it comes to our chickens. We lost our frizzle, Goldilocks. Then our white maran, Sunshine, started acting very sick. Shortly after that, our RIR named Effie started acting sick. THEN our crossbeak was acting odd (breathing hard, crop didn't seem to be...

    Prolapsed vent in tiny silkie

I inserted a picture into my previous reply. I'm not sure if there is an egg that is stuck, I tried feeling for one but I don't know what I would be feeling if there was one.

    Prolapsed vent in tiny silkie

She is laying. She was hatched in September of 2021. I've inserted a picture, it is very graphic :(. Please excuse the state of her feathers. We are constantly battling this with her (she went through a similar period where her feather looked like this and we isolated her inside and they grew...

    Prolapsed vent in tiny silkie

Our tiniest chicken (a buff frizzle silkie named Goldilocks) has what appears to be a prolapsed vent. I tried to help her without pushing it back up in her body ( I just sort of held it against her backside and hoped she'd somehow guide it in naturally, that probably makes zero sense though)...
