    Frostbite?

I was wondering if adult Toms get frostbite on their faces and snoods in the winter. It's been in the 10s this week and in the negatives at night (Fahrenheit). I'm worried that my tom's face will get too cold. This morning the tip of his snood was white but it turned red after a few minutes. Any...

Hatching egg looks the same after 17 hours!?

Just out of curiosity, what breed are you hatching? None of my hens have ever gone broody this early in the year.

Hatching egg looks the same after 17 hours!?

The change in incubation may effect their hatching. If it's the 21st day I wouldn't worry at all.

Hatching egg looks the same after 17 hours!?

If the other chicks haven't hatched yet, I wouldn't worry at all. How many days have they been in the incubator? I always give my chicks 24 days in the incubator: 18 being turned, 3 in lockdown, and 3 for hatching

Hatching egg looks the same after 17 hours!?

It's better off for the chick if you just leave it alone. I had a chick last spring that needed 48 hours and it came out just fine. Just keep the humidity high and it should be fine. Are there any other chicks in the incubator? Can you see the chicks beak? If it is moving/opening and closing...

    Frostbite

I am located in New England and recently it has been dropping below 10 degrees at night. My white leghorn rooster (hatched this spring) has been getting very bad frostbite on his comb. Being leghorns, they have very large combs. Yesterday when I was checking on the flock I noticed he was...

    New Geese

Recently I've been looking into getting another pair of geese. I currently have 2 pairs of Toulouse geese. I wanted to get a different breed that is very friendly and good for many things. Any suggestions? I live in New England and it gets pretty cold. Any help is appreciated.

    Runaway Turkey

I found him this morning. He was on the next street over. He was calling for the other turkeys. He looks unharmed. Thanks for all the help

    Need help!!!

The chick probably imprinted on you. I've had some waterfowl that did the same. I'd take all the chicks away from the hen and put them in a brooder that way they'd be more friendly when they get older and keep the runt company. You can also keep an eye on them.

    Runaway Turkey

I'm not sure what breed it was. He was a big dog, probably around 50 pounds. I know for sure it didn't get him because he flew into the trees and the dog lost interest. It's possible one of the other neighbors' dogs could've got it.

    Runaway Turkey

At about sundown a neighbor's dog got loose and chased some of my turkeys into a nearby woods. Two of the 3 came back within thirty mins. The last one hasn't come back for 4-5 hours. I went out looking for him for an hour and 30 mins before I decided to look again in the morning. I live in a set...

    Turkey with cracked beak

I just worry that the scent of the glue will negatively effect her because it will be so close to her nostrils.

    Turkey with cracked beak

Yes, all of my goats, dogs, cats, and other animals go to the same vet. I have been seeing them for the last 5 years or so

    Turkey with cracked beak

Do you have any suggestions as to how to do that. I'm planning on calling my vet tomorrow to ask similar questions. She is having trouble eating, I think she is in some pain so I'm trying to do as much as I can to make this stress-free and quick.

    Turkey with cracked beak

She's a pretty clumsy flier at night-but then again she can't see very well at night either. It is very likely that she could've flown into another coop or a fence. Is there a way I can strengthen her beak until it heals?

    Turkey with cracked beak

She calmed down and is sleeping in a brooder in my garage. I've applied triple antibiotic ointment onto her cut. She is a very calm and docile turkey. I hatched her and raised her this spring. She was lonely a little while ago but has calmed down since then.

    Turkey with cracked beak

My blue slate hen recently formed a minor crack in her beak. Today when I was putting her away for the night I noticed it the crack had grown and was going down the middle and continued up her face as well. I brought her inside and out her in a brooder while I figure out what to do. I'm going to...
