I have no experience with roosters, as I live in the city. Is he only mean to her or others & people too? I think I would not keep him or at least separate him instead of the hen. Good luck with deciding.
I haven't carved a pumpkin yet this year... Not even sure if I will be. I will post a pic if I do. But....
I feel the best thing to scrape out the inside of a pumpkin with is a flat canning jar lid- (no handle to get in the way).
My coop is inside my run. The coop is 6x10ish. Might be hard to see....All the way back in the coop is the roost bar, nesting boxes are below poop tray. Chopped straw is over linoleum back there. Sand is in the other section of the coop. I like them both, they have been working except when the...
My suggestion is to put a poop board under the roost bar. The egg wouldn't have far to travel. Easy clean up. Nest boxes could go under the board for a bit more privacy & maybe staple up some fabric there too. Good luck.

Im sorry for your loss. They are special & have quite the knack of working their way into the center of your heart. I dread the day i have an issue with my Girls.
I'm so sorry, such as unfortunate accident happened. Yes, try not to be so hard on yourself. Accidents do happen, and it's a hard lesson to learn, but a lesson just the same. Good luck with the remaining chicks, you will just love them. I'm sure you will be a great chicken mama.
Reading my post I see i did not clarify a few things. I have 3 Girls. I am only trying to break them of the habit of sleeping in the run (hopefully only 2 or 3 nights). They will not be locked in while I am gone. I have an auto door (which I delayed the close time in case that was the issue)...
