I'd like to share the breeding pens I just finished. The pens are 6 feet tall 8 feet long and have a 1 foot external nest box on one end. There are hinged panels between the left and right sides, that way we can have 3 2'x8' pens or 6 2'x4' pens depending if we are using it for a breeding pen...
Here is a coop the will be on silent auction May 12 at Hidden Waters golf course in Waupaca, WI. My family and I just finished building it and are donating it to help a friend that is fighting cancer. The coop measures 3'x3' square, sits 16" off the ground, external nest box with hinged lid...
Thank you, they are called power vents and believe they are typically used for putting in the soffits for roofs when adding venting. I bought them at my local Fleet Farm, they come in a 4 pack for around $6 and are made out of aluminum.
Thank you. I initially designed this just for a fun family project that would be sold since we already have 5 coops, but after we got it done I really didn't want to let it go! I might build another one so I can take detailed step by step pictures if I put plans together.
I do have some crude drawings for the cut outs on the 2 sheets of plywood. If I get some extra time this winter I'd like to make some detailed plans and have a friend put my drawings in his CAD program.
I agree the most important thing is ventilation for healthy birds!!! Easy access to collect eggs and to clean, make sure its predator proof, close to electricity if you'll need to have a heated waterer or to run a light, a pop door that opens and closes from the outside of the coop, windows...
The coop is heavy but I can easily move it myself. If I had to do it over I'd put bigger wheels on it since my backyard is kind of rough and look into mounting them in the middle of the run with a lever to flip to lift up the coop and navigate around easier and after moving flip the lever back...
Here is my coop I designed for a winter project and ended up building it right away in December, it will be used for breeding silkies. The coop measures 3'x3', the run measures 3'x10' and is 4' tall from the ground to the peak. It is built with 5/8 thick T1-11 plywood and 25 year architectural...
