I got it dry and warm and put it back with its siblings. Been checking every half hour and seems to be okay. Eating and drinking. Put wood over the pond so they can’t get in. I’ve noticed now that they’re older the drake and my other female mallard are less tolerant of them. I’ve seen them...
All 5 of my ducklings follow one female and the other is more of a body guard to keep the other ducks and me away from the babies. I would prefer to put it back with the mom and soon and it’s safe. Do I wait until it’s dry completely? It’s looking much better but not completely dry.
When I got it out of the pond I put it on the ground and the moms started fighting over it and kept grabbing it. Makes me so worried. How long should I keep it under the lamp?
Found it stuck in my pond treading water up to its neck. Seems weak. Got it out of the water and put it under a heating lamp. Idk what to do. Poor thing is shivering.
Just wanted to update you all on the happy little family! Mallard is a fierce momma who doesn’t put up with anyone’s nonsense. All 5 babies are doing great and growing like weeds. I have two female mallards, a female Rouen, and a pekin male. Lately I’ve noticed the other female mallard nipping...
Update! Thank you for your help! I don’t know what I would have done without it. Everyone is happy and healthy so far. Squeaker is noticeably smaller than its siblings but well taken care of. She started following the wrong mallard and when it walked away from her she gave a couple loud squeals...
I do not know what I would have done without everyone’s help and support. I successfully got the little duckling in with the rest this morning and I could not be happier! Mama mallard came after me (again) to protect her baby which I was okay with seeing her protective with it. Such a huge relief :)
I do have some nutridrench so I’ll put that in there. It has 4 siblings that are a day or two older than it. I’m just waiting until it’s walking steadily and I feel confident it’s okay before I put it with mom and the rest. I tried putting it with its siblings right after it hatched but mom kept...
So the pipped ducklings didn’t make it unfortunately but the hatched duckling seems to be doing okay. I have her in a tub under a heating lamp. I was thinking about waiting until around 8:30 tonight when she’s 24 hrs old to maybe slip it in with the others. Thoughts?
So I went out to take away all the unhatched eggs and two had pipped but didn’t make it. But my other mallard is laying on a nest. She has went broody before. Do you think she’d accept the duckling?
Yup it’s currently sleeping away. I slept horribly last night worrying about why I was going to wake up to but it seems like it’s a fighter. I could believe what a savage my mallard was to it.
Unsure of the exact temp since I had to throw it together late last night. I have it in a tub with pine shavings and a heating lamp. It seems to be getting its strength. I’m hoping once it’s stronger and can walk 100% I can introduce it to the flock.
