    Thank you very much ❤️

What could be wrong with her neck?

Thank you! Yes, I definitely wanted to update because I hate when I’m searching for info, I get to reading through threads, but there’s no update. Interesting that the vet couldn’t see anymore eggs above that one… makes me cringe thinking it was quite possibly the very last egg that did her...

What could be wrong with her neck?

For inquiring minds and for Byc people searching threads: the vet did an ultrasound and saw what looked to be the shape of one very large egg inside her ovary. She (the vet) couldn’t tell if it was an egg or if it was a lump, but it had an egg shape and was solid. She didn’t see any other eggs...

What could be wrong with her neck?

Thank you for your kind response and that’s something I never thought about! I’d be thankful for that, too. It’s so heartbreaking seeing them go through this and I’d definitely welcome broodiness!

What could be wrong with her neck?

Thank you everyone for your input! I’ve shifted into the thinking that it’ll be best for her to be euthanized. I’ll update with input from the vet tomorrow for BYC people searching for the same issues in the future.

What could be wrong with her neck?

Same, I will never buy another, especially after seeing how far it went with the hen that was given to me. The egg production complications are no joke and it’s so sad. It’s almost to the point of a meat bird where it can seem inhumane to keep them past a certain age. I’m the same as you about...

What could be wrong with her neck?

Agreed. Not sure if you saw the whole thread, but it’s stated on the previous page that she’s going to the vet for a quality of life check and probably euthanasia tomorrow morning. We had a different hen that was given to us with a severe case of internal laying and I will not let this baby...

What could be wrong with her neck?

The top part is hard like a bone. It’s so strange. I wonder if that’s a mass behind her trachea or something and it’s pushing it outward. Her crop is back to normal, it seems, but we’ll continue with the soft foods for sure.

What could be wrong with her neck?

Okay, that makes sense. It’s so disheartening to see her do that uncontrollably. She hasn’t laid in about a year and I suspect internal laying, honestly. She squatted for me a few weeks ago and kept going into the nesting box, but nothing came out. Then, she started feeling bad and sluggish...

What could be wrong with her neck?

I let her out on the porch with her flock and my daughter is monitoring while I’m at work. I’m glad you said that because I was wondering about it. She’s head hen ugh. I’ll have my daughter bring grit inside when she comes back in today. I noticed her not really eating I think on Friday. Her...

What could be wrong with her neck?

I forgot to answer your grit question. When she was still outside, she had grit available, but I didn’t think of bringing it in for her at the time (she’s been inside for about 2 days now). Should I buy the more finely ground chick grit for her?

What could be wrong with her neck?

Thank you so much for your reply! I’ve been giving her coconut oil or organic hexane free castor (she would only take a little) and papaya digestive enzymes. The photo was almost 24 hours old when I posted and her crop was about half that size last night. I should’ve grabbed a new photo, but...

What could be wrong with her neck?

Edit: she’s an almost 4 year old ISA brown who also has suspected internal laying. She’s going to the vet tomorrow morning for a quality of life check and probably euthanasia so I don’t just prolong her suffering. I wish I was one of those who could cull, but I just can’t do it. Thank you to...

Is MyPetChicken still affiliated with Meyer?

Here are all of the chickies! Out of the 6 I got from Meyer, 1 did pass from the long journey. She was never really "right". Since We only had 5 out of the 8 from Meyer, we HAD to get 5 from MPC because chicken math! :) Meyer: 2 Green Queens (I think)... 1 has 5 Toes! 1 Welsummer 1 White...

Is MyPetChicken still affiliated with Meyer?

Thank you! I didn't even realize it until after I ordered from MPC. But, I received the chicks yesterday, all are active and the breeds seem to be accurate! Meyer must've been having a bad week last week because now that we have a Blue Cuckoo Marans chick from MPC, I'm realizing the Black Copper...

Is MyPetChicken still affiliated with Meyer?

I had a bad experience with Meyer and decided to go with MPC when ordering chicks this time around. But, I’m just now figuring out that the hatcheries are/were affiliated. The threads I saw are years old, so I’m here to ask if it’s possible that they’re not affiliated anymore? Meyer forgot to...

Too much of a coop elevation?

Thank you everyone, I’ll keep all of your tips in mind! We’re in coastal Virginia and I’ll go fill out the profile after I type this reply. We’ve lived in this house for 7 years and saw the water come up into the back yard once. According to the previous homeowners, the water came up about 3-4...

Very detailed answer, thank you! I’ll keep all of these breeds on my list. We’re thinking 6 chickens or less.
