    Bullying

I did already have her away from them for 2 months. She was able to see them but she had run of backyard and slept in kennel at night. I ended up putting the bullies in kennel but kept it in the run so they could all see lol. Chicken humiliation. The other girls seemed to leave her alone but she...

    Bullying

I had one 3 yr old hen who had an injury and was having a hard time walking. I separated her from the flock of 7 in order for her to heal. It took almost 2 months for her to get back walking well enough to go back in with the flock. Unfortunately they did not welcome her back with open wings. At...

Two coops, one run and cold weather

They have been together since the younger ones were a few months old and besides the typical pecking order all has been great. I may try to put them all together tonight and see what happens.

Two coops, one run and cold weather

The floor space is about 4’x5’ and additional space for 3 nesting boxes. It’s the same space up 8’ minus nesting space Has 5 roosts that are 4’ wide 2x4’s. I’d love for them to all Be together but certainly don’t want to stress them. One of them is extremely timid. Always has been.

Two coops, one run and cold weather

I have 7 hens. 3 are 3yrs old and the other 4 are 10 months old. I have them all integrated into one run which has two coops. One is large with five roosting boards and 3 nesting boxes. It is well made and warm with enough room for all of them. There are two roosts that aren’t even being used at...

    Hen won’t roost

It’s not tight but she is roosting now. She missed her window no added a window to the front and she’s fine now. The young ones roost together in the separate coop

    Coop integration

I agree. Both coops are secure from predators and so far all the ladies are roosting I actually had to add a window in the door for one of my ladies to go back on roost. I agree they are weird. She wa upset when i rearranged the coop and her roost was no longer by a window. She boycotted by...

    Coop integration

Wow this was all very informative! Thank you very much. For now I’m just gonna let things be. During the day they are all in the run together and the littles get pecked every now and then but for the most part they are doing well. I do see them returning to their area when one of the older ones...

    Coop integration

The ladder has 4 rungs and each is 30” wide. It goes up nearly 7 feet. The coop floor is 4’x5’ in addition to the nesting boxes. There are 5 windows at various heights all with hardware cloth.

    Coop integration

I’ve done calculations and the main coop can hold up to 12 birds. It also has 3 nesting boxes. I guess I will just add a nesting box inside the intro coop and leave it open for the girls to decide. It is all inside the run so safe whichever they decide. I won’t have to really worry about it...

    Coop integration

I have 3 (3yr old) ladies and 5 (13 week old) young ladies. I have a fairly large run and have sectioned off an area for the younger ones since they were about 8 weeks old. It includes its own coop with roosts. It doesn’t have nesting boxes though. All of the ladies have been able to see each...

    Hen won’t roost

I’m pretty sure that when the ones are above they can’t poop on the board below. Most of the time they face the door so butts are farther away

    Hen won’t roost

Well right now it’s only 3 birds and floor is about 4x6 without including nests. The younger ones have their own coop

    Hen won’t roost

The coop is about 6 ft tall and it has a ladder on angle from floor to ceiling with 4 rungs about 30” across each. It also has 3 nesting boxes that extend out of the coop I knew dumpling was roosting on a separate roost from the other two for a while but always inside.

    Hen won’t roost

I have 3, almost 3 yr old hens. They seem to get along most of the time. I also have 5 , 7 week old hens in a closed off area inside of the run. I changed the roosting arrangement in the older ladies coop and noticed that one of them was roosting on the porch of the coop. Not knowing any better...
