    LGD Tips?

Holy COW! That is awesome. Thank you for sharing. I sure wish I had put the pup up with the chickens from the start, but since it was so hot we had him inside the house. I just have a few questions.. What form of dicipline do you use if the pup "goes for" a chicken? Mine has been pretty good...

    LGD Tips?

Does anyone have any recommendations on books or tips on training a Livestock Guardian pup to guard chickens? Any advice is appreciated.

How often do you visit your chickens?

I used to visit them 3-4 times a day on weekdays, and 6-7 times on weekends, if I didn't have them out and about with me. Now that I have a Great Pyrenees Puppy, I seem to only get up to feed and water. The pup is supposed to guard the chickens eventually, but it is hard to bond them together...

    Broody Hen

I second the VERY LARGE STINKY POOP! I didn't think my hen was getting off the nest either, but some of the feed is gone...and I caught her off of it for a second this morning, so they DO get off. Just not often at all.

    I'm scared!!!

Gritsar- Sorry I can't offer any advice. I'm learning right along with ya~! I think I vote for the "letting mother nature do her thing". I mean, she must know the crate is there if she needs it right? And she chose now to bring them out and roost with the others. And harm ye none girl...

    High Calcium Pigeon Grit (red)

Guess if they want it, they will go for it. Crazy birds! I can never guess that they will do.

    High Calcium Pigeon Grit (red)

I bought some too, but in error. I don't see why it would be a problem, but I'm not a poultry nutrition expert. I leave that to my chickens.

What did you get for Valentines Day????

Happy Valentine's Day Wyandotte TX! Sorry you were passed over. It's kinda a commercialized holiday to my way of thinking. Still..... I got a 15cu ft. deep freeze, a card and some chocolate. I gave.... Jeff Dunham tickets for March 5th.

Does farm raised pork taste better then store bought pork???

Absolutely! Like a home raised chicken egg and a storebought egg. No comparison.

Lets talk about our current broodies :) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had one sitting for 16 days now. I moved her inside to the utility room due to the blizzards. She keeps fouling the nest though and stinking up the whole house. This isn't your ordinary poo either! UGH! No more broodys inside!

Can I move this broody banty?

Great. Okay will do! I can handle it. She's pretty busy doing her thing! I cobbled together a nesting box, but the lid must be too low. She is sitting on the eggs outside the box, but still in the crate. I was hoping to move that box out of there, but I'll just wait until the chicks hatch...

Can I move this broody banty?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this topic, but received no answer in the Hatching section.. I have a broody in a wire dog crate in my utility room. Primarily because it was way below zero with blizzard conditions when she started. (It was a suprise. This is my first year with...

    Can I move my broody?

Hi Folks. I have a broody in a wire dog crate in my utility room. Primarily because it was way below zero with blizzard conditions when she started. (It was a suprise. This is my first year with chickens.) She started sitting on the 27th of Janurary. It is now supposed to be 40-55 for the next...

Think it's too cold for your chickens? Think again...

I think we are ALL done with this cold winter weather. It was -12 wind chill this morning, and supposed to be in the 50's this weekend. Confusing. My flock is ready to get out of the barn and did in the dirt for emerging insects. Me too! (Dig in the dirt that is...)

Sounds like a spouse pow-wow is in order! Ha! I had three too many Roo's. They are at freezer camp now. My girls are MUCH happier with just one roo.
