Integrating 6 week and 8 week chicks with major size differences.

I have found in the past, that waiting until it gets dark and they have gone to bed is best time to put them together. When they wake up in the morning they seem to think it has always been that way.. If you are worried you can set an alarm and be there in the morning when the wake up to observe...

Coop Build - what to do for roosts/poop boards?

here is a photo of our roost. It has a roost with a poop deck under it and the bottom level is the nesting boxes. I will have some of my girls going broody so wanted the nest area on the ground level. I use bermuda grass with DE dusted under it. It dries the poo quickly and keeps down the flies.

If your baby chick turns out to be a roo you cannot keep two roos and 2 to 3 hens the roos will fight and the hens can get mounted to the point of dying. One of them will have to go

    Vitamin & Electrolyte Water

Electrolytes should only be given for the first week then once a week after that for the first 17 weeks. It would not hurt to do them occasionally after that if the weather is really hot.

Need a better way to water my flock

For me I have several waters for my flock. I have 13 birds and 4 waters. That way they don't crowd around just one. They sit up on cinder blocks to keep them cleaner.

Hi, I just bought some chicks from Cal Ranch. Happy to be here

Ty, and I will. They are only allowed in the bathroom when I go in. They have been around chickens before and like to lay out in the paddock with them when they get bigger. They help keep a watchful eye on them and dispatch mice or occassional small snakes when they come around to invade the paddock

    Nesting boxes question!

I too do not have experience with roll out boxes. My hens will have bottom nest with Bermuda grass. I have it set up so if one goes broody I won't have to move her. Their nesting boxes are under the poopdeck and roost. I hope someone is able to help with this. Still welcome to the group for you...
