    Baby Buttons!

My daughter’s buttons hatched their babies today! Silver and Calli are proud first time parents to four teeny hatchlings. We have two eggs left to hatch. Three mini daddy’s and one mini mama. We are thrilled!

    First Button Quail Hatch…

It seems luck was not on our side. We have 4 for sure males and one for sure female. The silver I was feeling pretty confident was a female but now I’m suspecting may be a male. The darker neck feathers only recently popped out and do not go around the neck (yet!). The pied I’m not even...

    First Button Quail Hatch…

Ooh! That is interesting! This little one did have an empty patch on the back. The photo isn’t brand new hatchling but was taken at 4 days. Your littles are so cute! I didn’t think I would like the button quail- chickens creep me out but I love our ducks. Haha! I am finding they are the cutest...

    First Button Quail Hatch…

Heatherbeast- I’m really struggling to find much on the pied and pied wing… do you know if they all have bibs? I’m assuming sense Bandit’s chest and face have always been yellow that s/he will have a bib and it won’t be a way to sex it. Should I be watching for red feathers to sex him/her?

    First Button Quail Hatch…

Oh! I just noticed you said hen… what is the clue to being a girl? That is exciting and my MIL would be very happy with a female. Lol!

    First Button Quail Hatch…

Aww! Thank you!! Laces- well Bandit is what my daughter has named him or her is one that she chose to live with us and you wouldn’t even know by looking at him that he hatched with curled toes! I must say I appreciate this site and the knowledge on it so much! After he hatched a quick search...

    First Button Quail Hatch…

And #3- Laces!… I’m going with the pied as mentioned above? S/he has a dark belly which from what I can tell is not the case with tuxedos. Unfortunately I don’t really have any photos that show off his white wings.

    First Button Quail Hatch…

#2- Silver something? I can’t help but feel like this baby is not just silver because of the whiteish spots on the feathers… but I have no idea really. Lol!!

    First Button Quail Hatch…

    First Button Quail Hatch…

My mother in law gave (with our permission) my daughter two of the babies so I am trying to brush up on my button knowledge. I’m wondering if anybody would like to help me with a few questions? They are two weeks old today. 1- when is a safe time to add foliage, hides, enrichment, etc.? I’ve...

    First Button Quail Hatch…

Thank you Ravenlover. I’ve been pretty impressed with this little incubator! I’ve found the temp and humidity to be spot on with separate calibrated thermometers and hygrometers. My first time using it was for ducklings and boy oh boy I learned real quick it’s a bit too small for them! 🤣 I will...

    First Button Quail Hatch…

Thank you!! Little Laces had the tape removed this morning and showed off perfectly straight little toes! Took about 20 minutes to get steady on his feet and learn to walk… again. I just love the coloration (I have no idea about different morphs as these are my MIL’s birds)… he reminds me of an...

    First Button Quail Hatch…

Just wanted to share my first experience with hatching button quail… My Mother in law ordered 12 button eggs from eBay… I’m unsure of the seller but they are located in MI, same state as us. I was tasked with incubating them! 🎉 I was beyond nervous. This would be my second time ever...

Mixed ducklings… did we just get unlucky?

My girl Hoglet. She was the very first duckling to hatch in the incubator and has been an attention hog sense the first moment out of the egg. She is the sweetest most loving duck I have ever encountered.

Mixed ducklings… did we just get unlucky?

This is Lil Bit- the only male we kept. He had an injury to his web when he was about two weeks old but has had no further issues with it, thankfully!

Mixed ducklings… did we just get unlucky?

Update- We ended up with a total of 19 ducklings! What an adventure it has been. We found homes for 12 of them and decided to keep 7. Here is how the seven we kept are looking at 8/9 weeks old.

Help requested… Our drake attacked my girl!

Thank you for the response. She seems to be more like herself today. She does seem a bit nervous to come up to me today which is a change (her name is Hoglet because she LOVES any and all attention and pets!) but I am hopeful that will go back to normal with time.

Help requested… Our drake attacked my girl!

Hi! An unfortunate event occurred this evening and I am hoping someone can help with what I can watch for. One of our “babies” (9 weeks tomorrow) found herself in the adult side of our run. This is a first time occurrence and I have no idea how she managed it. We have already taken steps to...
