What on earth is going on with our astralorp’s crop? It’s big, squishy and it sways around. It will occasionally touch the ground when she eats. It’s not tender, she’ll let me massage it and not fuss. Poop is good, appetite is good, energy level is good. It’s been about a week now.
We’re still naked there 😂 Brahma has been stomping broodmates lately. Hoping isn’t not mounting behavior, doesn’t ACT like a cockerel aside from the occasional stomp but 🤷♀️ 🤞🏼
That one we added later from a reputable breeder, but that other one we keep going back and forth on 🤦♀️ We’ll find out about the bigger one for sure when they start laying lol
Here’s the (short) backstory. We picked up one Cream Legbar & one Welsummer baby chick in April (and many many others, chicken math). After one week, one of them failed to thrive. Which one do we still have?? We picked up an additional Cream Legbar the following week, so here are photos of both...
I know this is an old thread but still pertinent. We lost a 4 week old prairie BlueBell last week to a rat snake in an outdoor coop (wood & hardware cloth) that we thought was predator proof. Wondering how much longer I need to worry about rat snakes eating my now 5 week old chicks (BO, Cream...
Our two flocks are 15 weeks and 4 weeks. Should we still give our part time free range 15wk flock grit?
(Love our PVC feeder btw! Hubby made a how to on TikTok)
We literally just did this last weekend! We’re trying the 💩 tray out, though the bench is designed to fold up and out of the way (the roosts are removable for cleaning up) and the tray’s front lip to lay flat for cleaning
I hope your tamales came out primo! Thank you for your reply. After much googling and with mixed feelings, we put it down. The girls didn’t want to touch it at first and of course our RIR had to take a small sample to see if she could eat it 😬🤦♀️ when they did step on it. The odor is...
I know this is an oldish thread but two years later an update would be most helpful. I just found the “grounds” at TS and picked up a couple bags. The coop is clean and in doing another last minute google to see if this is a good idea to use, more importantly, sage for the flock.
We’ve taken to calling this chick “Biff the buff”, “Joe Biffy” in anticipation of a cockerel proclamation. Absolutely the most sweet, curious and lovable chick. Too soon to tell the sex? We are just over 4 weeks today and have a mixed flock the same age, so little to compare to though the comb...
