    URI in my silkie

I have a silkie (guessing she is about 4 lbs) who I’m pretty confident she has a respiratory infection. I have both la-200 and Tylan. Which one is better to give (I am unsure if this is bacterial or viral). Can I give them orally? What is the dosing for both orally and IM? Thanks

I was going to try and do that with warm compresses and saline.

    Upper respiratory infection

Hi, I have a silkie who has an URI, we don’t have an avian vet anywhere near us. What is the best way to treat this? I do have some random “left over” human medications in my cupboard. Her eyes are all crusty, would like to clean that up a bit for her (saline and qtip maybe?)Can you give...

Help me predator proof my coop

Yes, they are locked up at night. We have a 10x20 run that’s cover in chicken wire. We then have their coop that’s attached to the run so they can go in and out of both.

Help me predator proof my coop

What about using 16x4 ft cattle panels? We have a 10x20 dog kennel we use for our run. We’re thinking if We put cattle panels up along the base, predators couldn’t chew through that. Then use the 19 gauge wire to fill in the gaps. Maybe 🤔?

Help me predator proof my coop

Hi, last week we had a raccoon kill two of our chickens. We saw the raccoon in the video so we definitely know it was a raccoon. We found how he was getting in and secured that area. This morning one of our silkies was killed. It looks like the predator possibly chewed through the chicken wire...

    Terrified hen

Hi, I purchased an easter egger hen yesterday who is approximately a year old. She is absolutely terrified of us. She’s in a metal crate in our run so she can get used to our other hens. I’ve introduced hens to our flock before and know it takes a bit of time. My concern is her being so...

New hen added to our flock

Hi there, we have 3 silkies (approx 6 months olds) and 3 hens about 2 years old. We added a new hen who is 1 year old ( approx 1 month ago). Our new hen has not laid an egg since we added her. The other girls don’t bully her, a few bits of pecking here and there, but nothing serious. They...

Why aren’t my chickens “hanging out together”

Hi, we have 3 hens about 1.5 years old. We just integrated 4 pullet silkies that are 3 months old approximately 3 weeks ago. They are all in the same run now and get along fine but they don’t act like a flock. They are acting like 2 separate flocks. The 3 older hens “hang out” together and the 4...

question about sending birds in for necropsy

Yes you can send the culled bird to have a necropsy done. Not sure where you live but I took mine to the WSU Avian Health Lab. It was $40.00 and it’s the students that do it as part of their curriculum.
