Not wildly familiar with bantams but couldn’t resist this little feather footed fluff ball from the straight run bantam mix bin at TSC.
posting photo of her ((him? *gulp*) as more of a baby chick and now at about 10 weeks. I thought maybe some kind of Cochin perhaps? Is this “blue”? But just...
I have 3 baby easter eggers between 6-8 weeks old.
One I bought as a pullet and she is clearly a hen. Single comb, sweet as can be. My favorite. Not going to bother posting her photo, but proof to myself I can sex at least one bird with confidence. 🙃
Bought alongside her, also about 6 weeks...
Bunny the EE updated photos! She/he’s about 8 weeks old now and I still feel unsure. The coloring is so flashy, she’s never been as friendly as my other EEs ... is she a hen?
(Bagel the BCM is Obvs a rooster. Here’s an updated photo of him too just for fun)
I have a ~6 week old salmon faverolle who has feathered out like a hen but has the biggest reddest comb of the baby flock. She is a SHE, right? The only one of her breed in the mix so I’m hoping this is just a breed development thing. She would have black chest feathers if she were a cockerel right?
EEs are barnyard mix chickens that lay green or blue eggs, so while they do typically have those green legs- not ALWAYS. I have heard of EEs with yellow legs before. I wouldn’t be wildly surprised if you start finding some colorful eggs in the coop one day ♥️
I bought these two chicks as “Cuckoo Marans” from TSC. 🧐
I’m guessing Sapphire Gems or something similar? Also, the combs are still super duper small but are those red waffles coming in strong trying to tell me something? Nearly 6 weeks old.
Any guesses for gender and breed?
She does not look a thing like any of my other EE’s have, that’s for sure! She’s always been very bold though. Your opinion gives me hope. I’ll post updated picture in another couple weeks
Settled into Bagel being a rooster, but not sure what I'm even looking for in Bunny. I know she hasn't changed much yet, but I can't seem to even tell adult Easter Egger hens and cockerels apart! lol! Is it just shape, stance, attitude?
Banana! I love it!!! Bagel and Banana would be a good duo! My kids are all about the food names. We have a Popcorn, Buttercup, Cookie, Cinnamon, Olive, and Sprinkles. Oh, and a lazy fat indoor cat named Gummy Bear to round things out. Definitely suggesting Banana next we have a little yellow chick!
Interesting; I feel pretty well convinced Bunny the EE is a rooster. Everything I’ve read about sexing them says it’s very difficult, because of the pea combs I suppose, unless they show red splotches on their wings and... I see the red. 😫
The kids will be sad about Bagel too! This is the risk...
Meet Bunny and Bagel, a bit over 5 weeks old today and I'm afraid they may both be roos!
I know EEs showing patches of red coloring their wings isn't a good omen and my BCM comb is looking a little too large...
Any votes?
Here's Bunny the EE
And Bagel the BCM
Thanks for your time &...
Do “blue sex link” lay colored eggs? 😍
They both have black washed legs with light fleshy colored toes.
No yellow dot on the head. The one I suspect to be female is darker on her head and the other has some white markings on his face.
Thanks for helping me solve this mystery.
I also just read that TSC doesn’t sell such fancy breeds as the blue Plymouth, but they weren’t sex-link. The straight run bin had birds that all looked the same. And now, of course, I have the one with much slower feather development and showing signs of rooster rather than pullet. Any other...
Hey there, loving all my recent impulse buys from TSC and got a little too excited about some straight run chicks I decided to take the gamble. I have two burning questions. First is breed. They were in a mixed bin labeled as cuckoo marans (the others were salmon faverolles, which I bought too...
