    Molting vs Feather Picking

How can you tell if feather loss is from molting or feather picking/bullying? All of my girls are 9 months old. I’ve been noticing some feathers in the coop and run that all appear to be from the same hen. I figured out which one it was because her tail feathers started looking sparse. Now, she...

We had our first soft egg today. Is this something to be concerned about? We have 8 out of 9 girls laying. They are on an all flock feed with oyster shell on the side. They are 27 weeks old and our first started laying at 22 weeks. All of our eggs have had nice, hard shells so far so I don't...

    Possible sour crop?

Yes, this is what I've always heard too. I'm just not sure sour crop is actually what's going on since I'm new to the chicken world. It appears to be that, but I may wait to see what the vet recommends first.

    Possible sour crop?

Yes, they go all night without food or water and sleep just fine. I believe, for sour crop, you are supposed to separate them and withhold food for 24 hours (still have water) and then introduce yogurt and eggs, but no carbs.

    Possible sour crop?

Our vet appointment is Wednesday. I'm going to try to get it moved it up to Tuesday. Should I wait until then to see what the vet says or should I act now? I hate to separate her and withhold food if that's not actually what she needs, but I also don't want to sit back and let her get worse.

    Possible sour crop?

Thank you for your feedback! The vet didn't do any testing so I have no idea if it is a bacterial thing or a virus. The antibiotics do seem to be helping though. They get chick feed and I do mix some chick grit in their food. They didn't seem interested in the grit when I gave it to them...

    Possible sour crop?

My chickens (7.5 weeks old) are currently on Tylan (in their water) for an upper respiratory thing. Several had started sneezing quite a bit and shaking their heads soon after we moved them outside so we went to the vet. We had a bit of a cold front come through and maybe they got a little...

Can I give my chickens strep?

My son was just diagnosed with strep throat and I always get it when one of my kids gets it. Is that something I could pass on the chickens? They just got over coccidiosis so I really don't want to cause them any more problems.

Possible coccidiosis in 3 week old baby chicks

Yes, everyone here gave me great feedback! I just meant that I got better info from the vet this morning than I did from the vet I saw yesterday. There was DEFINITELY blood. Sometimes they would poop out just blood without really any fecal matter. I wash their waterer with soap and water every...

Possible coccidiosis in 3 week old baby chicks

It's a radiant heat plate that they can go up under if they want to. It doesn't heat the entire brooder. They mostly sit on top of it now, but they like to go under it at night.

Possible coccidiosis in 3 week old baby chicks

Thank you all! I went to a different vet this morning and got much better information. I don't think the other one even ran the right test. It's definitely coccidiosis. She said to give them 5 mL per gallon of the liquid corid. We are in Texas. They don't have a regular heat lamp. We've been...

Possible coccidiosis in 3 week old baby chicks

Hello all. I'm new to the chicken world and I am getting all kinds of mixed information and I'm at a loss about what to do. We recently purchased 10 baby chicks that were 2 days old. They are a little over 3 weeks old now. Everything was fine until yesterday morning. I found blood in the brooder...
