    Duck with eye injury

Hello! Just wanted to give an update on my one eyed duck! Her eye is looking MUCH better. The discharge that was originally oozing out of her eye is extremely minimal. She is blind in that eye now with ability to see shadows possibly. I will continue cleaning for now and spoil her with extra...

    Duck with eye injury

Thank you so much for sharing your photos. It does put me more at ease seeing what happened with your duck. How long do you think it took before you felt the need to treat the eye was no longer necessary? Poor girl is traumatized every time I grab her, but I do give her a generous serving of...

    Duck with eye injury

It’s day 3 of attempting to heal my ducks eye. In my opinion, it looks worse. She also is limping today and is shaking her head a bit. I think she is having trouble adjusting to seeing out of one eye only and is running into a lot of obstacles. I just really hate that I don’t know how this all...

    Duck with eye injury

I think it looks a lot better also! I feel bad that she is at a disadvantage when I throw treats out to them, but hopefully she will adjust! I’m glad to hear your duck is doing well with a similar situation. Thank you so much ☺️

    Duck with eye injury

I appreciate everyone’s tips and advice! I have flushed and medicated her eye a few times today. This afternoon when I inspected her eye it was open, but very cloudy. I’m nearly positive her eyesight is gone. I will still treat her eye to prevent any infection. I’ve attached an updated picture.

    Duck with eye injury

She doesn’t open that eye at all. When I have her in my arms she will open her eye lid and I can see her inner eyelid is covering her eye. Very rarely will she open the whole thing and her eye looks a little cloudy. I think she can see out of it when she does open it, but not very well. Not to...

    Duck with eye injury

I do have drakes and that’s definitely a possibility for her injury as well. I’ve been keeping her away with another hen for now. Today her eye looked a little worse so hopefully once I get terramycin it’ll help.

    Duck with eye injury

I will go back to the feed store to get some terramycin. This morning when I captured her to treat her eye, the white goop had a very subtle greenish tint. When the hoop was white, I wasn’t as stressed for infection.

    Duck with eye injury

I’m thinking she got poked in the eye also. It’s a relief to know that IF she ends up losing her eyesight she will be okay. Thank you so much for the reply!

    Duck with eye injury

Ah bummer! All the avian vets around me are pretty far and booked out for weeks. I just hope at some point she will be able to open her eye. I just am so curious as to how it happened. I feel bad for her, but it does make it easier to catch her… she is still eating and drinking fine. The rest of...

    Duck with eye injury

Hello everyone! Hope all is well! It’s been a while since I have posted. I guess “No news is good news” until now. Yesterday I noticed one of my free ranging blue Swedish ducks was keeping her eye shut. Upon further inspection, she keeps both eyelids shut on her right eye and gunky white goop is...

    Issue with new duck

Thank you! I appreciate everyone’s advice. I’m going to try slowly integrating. She slept in her own pen last night with the existing flock still being able to see her as well as her being able to see them. Today I put her in the collapsible pen outside and the existing flock ended up napping...

    Issue with new duck

I have my main flock of the 1 Drake and 4 hens which is who I am trying to get this new girl to join. I have a mini flock of 3 that I hatched (all ended up as drakes 🤦🏻‍♀️) that I’m trying to rehome and they are about 16 weeks old. Finally, I have a duo which consists of 2 drakes that are...

    Issue with new duck

Do you think I should separate the Drake completely? I have a section of my barn blocked off for integrating new ducks, but they do not have a pen and free range on a little over an acre. I just don’t want her to be lonely and scared or the other ducks to be stressed. Thanks for the response!

    Issue with new duck

I know it’s going to take longer than a few hours or even a few days. My chickens and ducks free range on a little over an acre so I feel bad if she is alone. She is just kinda lingering around them quacking non stop. I’m surprised my Drake was the pest. I do have a section of the barn fenced...

    Issue with new duck

Hello all! I haven’t posted in a while, but I have come across an issue that I need some advice on. I currently have a Rouen Drake and 4 Blue Swedish hens. They are about a year old and get along great. Today I went to my local feed store and they had a lone 14 week old silver appleyard hen. I...

Drake Khaki Campbell and mallard/golden 300 ducklings need rehoming

Thank you! I ended up keeping everyone. They all have over an acre to forage in, so for now it’s working. Come spring, that may change… but I’m already working on a solution for that 😊

Just went out to put the chickens away for the night, and one of them was outside laying on the ground. She can’t seem to walk. More details in post.

That happened to one of my hens when I put them away at night, but there wasn’t fermented fruit around. She was just laying in the grass and I picked her up and her legs were limp and her comb was bright red. I brought her in the house to give her water with electrolytes and she wouldn’t drink...
