Any idea what these growths on this chick could be?

Is the baby with other chicks? Any chance there may be an infection related to pecking/ injuries? Do the “growths” feel warm to the touch? And, other than the “bumps”, is the chick behaving, eating, and drinking normally? Any abnormalities in the poo? And other observations could also be...

(🚨EMERGENCY) - Will Eggs Handle Time?

I would suggest reaching out to your friend, just in case. And I’d also recommend candling the eggs you have in your incubator- You might end up finding that you have more “space” than expected :/ But also. What do you have that is already started? How far along are they? Do you have a...

I moved them outside at 2 weeks. Yay or nay?

I highly recommend the mommas heating pad / cave, or, an adjustable height heat plate. Not one that gives ambient heat from a vertical position, but one that the babies can stand against/ snuggle under, and you can adjust the height <- very important, regardless of your decision 😊

I moved them outside at 2 weeks. Yay or nay?

As for your coop, there is a whole section filled w ideas I am sorry I’m not sure how to send that link, maybe someone here can help? However, I will say, that if you are sticking it into that side yard.... you will want 1/2 - 1-4” hardware cloth on the fence (depending on your local...

I moved them outside at 2 weeks. Yay or nay?

I think the crate looks safe from.... most things. But. The babies will fly sooner than you might think... You might consider this as a safer option than the heat lamp....? Momma heating pad (I use a long heating pad on the top, a short one in the bottom, and have some leftover heavy fencing...

New 4-week old turkey poults issue

I’ve raised poults and ducklings together- but it is a pain, because the ducklings make SUCH a mess. And the Tom turkeys need to be separated from the duck hens once they are coming of age.... With the possible exception of you planning to butcher before they start to try to breed all hens in...

One of my three little ducklings randomly falling over

Ducklings should not be on medicated feed based on my research- I have always started them on non medicated feed. @Miss Lydia @Eggcessive @New duck mommy 2021 - can you back me up on this? And. Nutritional yeast is a great Niacin supplement - but you may need something more potent to get the...

Bush beans and pole beans question?

I’ve done (small) watermelon, and up to sugar pie sized pumpkin on “trellises” before- worked great! You may end up having to figure out a way to “lash” on some sort of “sling” at the very end if you are working w bigger melons- and I look forward to hearing about the results in a couple of...

    Staggered hatch *1egg

@Huntmaster has a great point/ great points throughout this thread. I admit that I’m a bit uncertain as to exactly when you set your “first” eggs in the ‘bator; I know that you said this one is about 2 days behind them. I’ve seen development of veins at 3-5 days in the ‘bator, sooo It might...

    Turkey Hen sits in water

I also agree w @MysteryChicken - she must like the warm water. But. I also agree w @Molpet - please take a close look at her feet and legs to make sure there isn’t a reason that she is loving that warm foot bath - Check her foot pads for sores/ black spots (bumblefoot), check for any crooked...

    Royal Palm Turkey

Young adult but at processing weight (+/- 5-6 months old) heritage variety hens sell for about 75$ here, and Toms for about 100$, “on the hoof” I offer in house processing for a fee, but tbh only to people I know.... I don’t want someone to improperly thaw a bird - get sick - and cause...

    Metzer Surprise?

If it is a gosling- and I’m not at all saying that it is not... you are likely going to have to order more than one more from any of the commercial hatcheries. I’ve had shipping losses and have been offered a discount on the next minimum shipping order....and usually take the credit bc I don’t...

    Metzer Surprise?

Full disclaimer: I’ve never had a gosling. And I’ve never had a pekin. I’ve seen a lot of both of those as babies at least. But.... the head doesn’t look quite right for a pekin.... I’m just going to cross my fingers (but not hold my breath) that it’s a baby pekin and not a gosling!!!! 🤦‍♀️

    Royal Palm Turkey

I’m not sure where you are located, but my turkey hens just laid their very first egg of the season yesterday. I live in the PacificNorthWet, at about 1500’. So we are always behind the “curve” But. I know we aren’t the only ones who have “unusual” conditions 😉 Perhaps the market is going to...

    Miniature Silver Appleyard ducks

Don’t forget to also check ebay and Etsy for hatching eggs, esp if you have a friend who has an incubator (and experience using it) and might be willing to help you. Shipped eggs often have a lower hatch rate (generally), but not always. Best of luck on your search!

Any Sweetgrass aficionados out there? -help w Tom selection request

Well.... I convince my husband to keep his beard trimmed pretty short as well.... so I have a hard time blaming our hens for doing the same :lau

What’s going on why red feet

Interesting point- We raise quite a few ducklings (Welsh harlequin) in the spring and summer, and I’ve never seen this. But we start w the brooder about 90 on the warm side / ~75/80 on the cool side on hatch day- when they are coming out of the incubator in pairs and often still a bit damp...
