Comb changes, not laying, feather loss over 2 months

Thanks for your response! I did think it was a molt at first but it’s gone on for awhile.. Though I’m fairly new at this so not sure how long a molt can last. She is keeping up for the most part, there have been times when she hangs out in the coop alone especially during the construction. Now...

Comb changes, not laying, feather loss over 2 months

Hello! Looking for some advice on what’s going on with my barnevelder. A couple month ago she seemed to be going through some stress and just has not recovered. Trying to figure out what I can do to help her. Backstory… In august/September we had some construction going on with a deck being...

Have a feather plucker.. who to separate?

Ok, would a higher protein feed help too? I saw there is one specifically to help with feather growth

Have a feather plucker.. who to separate?

Ok, thanks for the information. I think the coop is the right size but run is a little small. I try to get them outside as often as I can. I think we’ll try blocking the wall like you said and a different roost situation. Thanks!

Have a feather plucker.. who to separate?

Sorry, should have specified, they are not locked in it all day, they have access to their run (predator proof) which is about 32 square feet and they are also allowed to free range each day with supervision, and they also have a pen outside their run they get to spend a couple hours each day...

Have a feather plucker.. who to separate?

Coop is about 16.5 square feet. They have been struggling with figuring out how to roost so maybe that has something to do with it? There was a roost and they didn’t like it so they were sleeping in the nesting boxes, and that’s where the feather pulling started. So we blocked the boxes and...

Have a feather plucker.. who to separate?

Hi! Looking for some advice. I have 4 chickens: two older pullets about four months old and two younger pullets about two months old. I integrated the younger ones and I thought all was well. But then, they had one bad day while I was on vacation where they didn’t get let out (caretaker mix up)...

Guesses on the gender for my barnyard mixes

thanks everyone!! #6 is being very dramatic this morning and trying to bite the combs off of the other roosters, so now I am thinking he is definitely a he. If I have 2/8 pullets, then my luck is the same as the last straight run I got 😆. Next time I will buy sexed chicks.

Guesses on the gender for my barnyard mixes

Hello! I’ve got 8 barnyard mix chicks and I’m thinking I’ve got majority roosters. My luck with straight runs has not been great so far 🙃 Would appreciate y’all’s opinions! And if you can also guess the father/mother that’d be cool too! They are about 3 weeks old. Here is what I know about the...

    Help with Barnevelders!

You're welcome! I had read that too about the tail feathers, but then I also read the opposite somewhere else 🙃 The behavior is a good indicator as well. If they are instigating play fights and seem a little more aggressive, they are likely male. The females tend to shy away and run from the...

    Help with Barnevelders!

Mine look very similar to your picture here. I have four, and one had a slightly lighter/yellower head as a baby, but eventually as he got older he darkened and is the same color now as the others. The other 3 were identical and we couldn't tell them apart. of those 3, 1 is female. We really...

Ok, thank you, they actually did already have a couple bricks in their run.

Should I be concerned about this beak?

Thanks for your response. I've seen him wipe it on the ground, which in some places is grass, some places georgia red clay.. Is there something else I can add to the run that would be better?

Should I be concerned about this beak?

Hello! This is one of my 2.5 month old roosters. Today, I noticed that he has a bit of an underbeak. I am not sure if he's always had it, tried to look back at pictures to see but he has two identical brothers and I can't really tell (his brothers' beaks look fine). It doesn't seem to be...
