Funny Chicken Story Collection (please contribute!)

My rooster did something like this yesterday. He wouldn't let the hens in though. He kept looking around in there and making purring like noises. I'm wondering if he was checking for spiders. Anyway when he finished his inspection, he let the hens in to lay.

According to this I think I may have negative 7, which means I need to go get more.

    Moving chicks outside…

I moved mine out at 5-6 weeks old. They were mostly feathered and trying to fly out of their brooder. They had had a few field trips to the back yard during the day already. ( Which they loved) I live in a colder climate and they did fine. Lowest degree probably around 36. No heat in coop

Again, try to look past the mess. There's a large window on the south side that might be nice for the chickens to get some sunshine.

Ok, I'll send pictures, but please excuse the mess. It's been used as storage/ fix up shop for the past year. I plan to clear it out in the next coming weeks.

Okay, so I more or less finished the woods book yesterday ( skipping the parts on large coops and coal brooders). So the main point I'm walking away with is: air, air, ( don't be a scared-y-cat) , and more air. With that being said, I looked over the 42 pages of pictures of coops on this site...

Ok. Does anyone know how deep a 3 sided coop should be to generally avoid breezes and rain?

You all are so super helpful! I do have a question regarding the woods coop. ( I'm making my way through the book right now) My understanding is that the lower openings are left open year round, but the upper opening is closed in very cold weather. I'm wondering why? Why not leave both open? Or...

Do you ever put Vaseline on their combs to prevent frost bite? I don't know anything about if it works or not, I just read it randomly from somewhere.
