I'm not much help. I have a hen with a red bullseye. I've treated her for about 2 months with no success. I've used blukote, hen healer, and vetericyn. I'm at a loss. She doesn't have vent gleet or bugs. She eats and runs around with everyone else and lays eggs. She has ample space, protein, and...
Yeah, I'm worried about the bully hen. She is beautiful, and I don't want to part ways with her. I feed nutrena layer feed and scratch with sunflower seeds daily. I supplement with alfalfa during the winter. They do love scrambled eggs so I will add some in this week. Raising chickens seems so...
This is the most recent thread that came up when I typed in bully hen. I have a hen who has decided to pull out other hens back feathers and bottom feathers. She even tries to pull out the rooster's bottom feathers. The hens have a large amount of space with multiple feeders and waterers. Today...
My 2 roosters have been raised in the coop/run with the hens. They lived together for more time than they have been separated and even in separation, their runs are side by side. Obviously, my rooster/hen ratio is too low. I've read about many flocks that live with more than one rooster with a...
I don't have much advice but am also seeking advice I have two 11 month old roosters that have been raised together since day old chicks. I separated them from my hens at about 5 to 6 months due to their teenage hormones. They have always gotten along just fine.
During the recent cold snap...
Here's a pic of one of my blue australorps from Mt. Healthy. She's the lightest in color. I ordered 3 blue australorps, 3 blue marans, and 2 cream legbars from Mt. Healthy. All are very healthy birds. I especially love my australorps and marans. They are very calm, sweet and friendly. Beautiful...
Well, I apparently have hardy chickens. They have been able to survive suffocating 112 to 114 heat indexes during the summer and now they seem to be managing negative windchill. Is it normal that chickens would choose to lay in the uncovered run with the windchill at -12? They have access to the...
Michigan doesn't look too bad right now. Our windchill in OK was at -4 a few hours ago, but we've made it to 4! I broke down and put heat in the coop though I really think my chickens would be okay without it. If it makes them more comfortable, then it makes me more comfortable. We secured the...
I'm new to roosters too. We built a rooster hut and pen for my 2 boys. They are 18/19 weeks old and are too aggressive with my girls. I don't have what it takes to cull them. I will never buy straight run again and am praying all of my 7 week old chicks are pullets. Good luck!
Update: I gradually acclimated the babies to the heat. Our heat index reached 121 yesterday. I sprayed my runs down with cool water, ran fans, and provided my babies (7weeks) with an ice block. They are out full time now as they outgrew the utility room shower. Hopefully all continues to go well.
I have to say, I'm deep into raising my 3rd set of chicks since March, and I'm completely exhausted. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. So 19 chickens later, a lovely coop with covered run, a rooster hut, and an A-frame for the babies, I don't think I'll be suckered in to getting...
I'm really glad I ordered them. They are just as sweet as the others in my group. They are both super fast. The brown headed one is Jojo and her pic was taken this week. The one with the black top hasn't been named yet. She's a little shyer than jojo so I'm still learning her personality. Her...
