So what happens when you cross a White Leghorn male with an existing flock of colored egg hens.
Will the offspring breed true to the existing egg color?
I identify with this one. Every morning when I go out to clean the coop & open the boxes I can’t listen to podcasts or anything because of all the screaming! 😂
What will I get when I cross these? I can’t seem to find info online about that happens with White egger males when bred.
White Egg laying Roo(California White) over: White Egg (California White) = ?
Pink Egg (Silkie) = ?
Green Egg(Starlight Green Egger)= ?

Trying to figure out this breed so I can better understand down line genetics. I attached photo of hen & her egg.
I think starlight green.
Also would you call that a green egg or olive? They’re very difficult to candle.
We have a portable dog kennel. When our older hens & rooster were picking on my 6 week old pullets I would pull the problem chicken & lock them in the dog kennel for the day. I think this also changes the pecking order some. Takes em down a peg or 2. Worked for us. The problem rooster had to be...
**UPDATE** this worked great. The pullets are doing good. Had to lock up the mean rooster 3 times for a whole day giving the nice rooster time to establish himself better as a leader. The other hens have also been better but they still peck them quite a bit. The pullets still don’t like to roost...
I have 8 layers. They’re getting old & 4 have since stopped laying. Was wondering the best way to put some weight on them before butchering them.
The breed is Golden Comet.
I’ve heard whole milk & chick feed could work ok.
We’ve had the 6-7 week old pullets in with the older hens in a separate cage for almost a month eating & drinking next to each other. This week we decided to release them out with the 8 older hens & 2 roosters. We understand that they are on the bottom of the pecking order but the old hens are...
My understanding is that both Roos & Hens have spots. Not sure how exactly the sex-link work with Cal Whites. I just hatched 5 of em. All of them have spots. Even the one with just 1 spot. There’s no way i struck gold & managed to hatch 100% hens.
It’s not dripping from the skylight areas. I believe it’s dripping off the roof & seeping in at the base of the walls where they snap into the flooring. This my concern with running a thick line of caulk around the bottom where the hens could reach it.
I don’t think it’s coming in thru the...
We put together a resin shed as a coop but I’m having issues with keeping out water. We live in eastern Tennessee & get lots of hard rainfall.
I’m thinking about running a bead of caulking around all the openings to better seal the windows & doors.
Worried about caulking being toxic tho. Do...
Ok thanks! wasn’t sure about your olive egger ID but after looking at some pictures it seems to match some of them. How sure are you on the Leghorns? There’s so many white breed ones
We hatched some Rhode Island Reds but we ended up with 1/2 males so we picked up 6 more from the feed store. We got them on discount from the assorted pullets bin. Any ideas when we have here?
#1 Back with orange feet, has obvious hints of red/brown mixed throughout. Definitely shorter than the...
