    Hens pecking each other

I would like to speculate about the feather picking. Since I have a large flock of 100 and am experiencing increasingly aggressive behavior and lots of picking. I have read numerous responses and believe that there is not a single answer or solution. I have also tried all of the suggestions to...

So did I just kill 30 chicks??

Only responding to original post of owners statement of food grade and what that implies. I said it has a hard time killing fleas not that it wouldnot. Sorry it seems I ruffled feathers, but the bottom line is if they are reacting, maybe some of it should be taken off. This will be my last...

    Sick Buff Orpington

Have you been cleaning the coop? or putting in new hay or straw? Fan or windy lately. Noticed any mold in the corn or feed? Is she scratching in the dirt okay? Check for mold in the watering can or the ground around the water supply? Need more information.

    Newbie- Started on my coop!!!

Roof angle is really high. Susceptible to strong wind if not anchored good. Maybe you're up north, but how will the hot air vent if the high spot faces the sun? Not a big issue, just thinking about the same things myself. If you walk into the coop will the 2x4 side braces support your...

So did I just kill 30 chicks??

Food Grade shouldn't kill them. 5% has a hard time killing fleas. Lower the lights to lower activity levels and fluff them outside the brooder with a hand held hair dryer on cool. let me know if you try it how it works out.

Please Tell Me What Am I?

I was going to guess a black sex link as well. I think the black sex links are a cross between an Astrolorpe and a Rhode Island Red. could be wrong, but this one has a little more red, but not much.

    Starting a Self-Sustaining Flock

I would suggest that you keep different sources seperate until you know they are safe to enter each others areas. Every source comes with its own issues whether they want to admit it or not. Just a safe protocol. Try to keep the same size hens together when they are small. they start pecking...

    Eye Swelling/scabbed over

8 young chicks all with similar eye disorder. Considered amonia toxicity. . . could be, but the other 500 seem to be fine. Can't find Opthalmic salve available. Don't know if it would work. Eye is not blistered, just swollen, very irratated some watery. Maybe older bird picking at eye...
