Cool likely one of each then! I have two 2 week old welsummers both with the eyeliner and dark v stripe but one is possibly developing a slightly pink comb… Will monitor!
2 weeks old. The welsummers and light Sussex growing rapidly and the others not far behind. Some short flights already taking place. Another trip outside yesterday but raining today so indoors.
4-6 days old. The chicks all have tail feathers and are sprouting wings except the Buff Orpington’s who have no tail feathers yet. The yellow BO has grown bigger and stands taller and louder. Maybe a Roo. The gingery spotty BO is squatter and quieter, hopefully a pullet.
Day 21. Crested Rock hybrid and second Welsummer successfully hatched 🐣 🥰 so 6 babies altogether. One egg remaining still no sound…will candle tomorrow if still silent.
Day 20. Further update. Two buff Orpington’s hatched! One is slightly yellower and the other slightly gingery… second Welsummer and Crested Rock hybrid have pipped! Only one unpipped egg left in the nest but no sound yet from that one 🙏🏼
Day 18. One egg is tweeting. Broody threw 2 eggs out and they’ve gone cold, have popped them back under her but don’t hold much hope. At least one of them was moving in the egg on candling 2 days ago.
Is there a free hen swop website in the U.K.? Whats the best way to sell/swap or give away surplus hens if hatch rates are high or do I need to keep them all?
7/8 eggs seem to be fertile…so that’s a possibility of hatching 2 buff orps, 2 welsummers, 1 light Sussex, one maran araucana hybrid, and one legbar hybrid chick to join my 7 hens. One pure maran and basin white ordered for a months time. Which just leaves Barnevelders on my wish list!
We have two bulldogs who egg each other on to chase/catch the chickens. So we built an ‘inner garden’ for the chickens to separate them and keep them safe. My husband says I can’t have anymore of the garden for the chickens 😂 (but I think he said that last time and the time before that, as well!)
I’m currently on day 12 of hatching on my broody buff O’s (and my) second hatch. Last year I separated the chicks until they were around 17 weeks but this year I’m hoping to integrate them into the flock much earlier. Just trying to work out how best to do it. Just candled (first time ever) and...
