    Baby Chicks - Possible Disease

I had not thought about that but you're right, two different approaches. I do have Corid on hand now. Thank you!

    Baby Chicks - Possible Disease

Thank you for your response. It is nice to know that someone else had similar concerns. I'm sorry you also had to go through it though! I think I will wait on the dust until 5 weeks also.

    Baby Chicks - Possible Disease

In December we had a less than year-old bird die. The flock had coccidiosis but not a heavy load, so we treated her for that but she never got better and died (possible Mareks or head trauma - avian vet gave no definitve diagnosis). We are getting baby chicks in June. Since whatever that...

    Coccidiosis

We are only seven months in and it has been rough! Apparently the business we bought them from doesn’t have the healthiest chickens so one died a few months ago unexpectedly and now this one is sick and we don’t know for sure what’s happening. The avian vet charges a normal office fee. In our...

    Coccidiosis

Oh gosh, I’m sorry! The day we found her just laying down in the coop, we took her to an avian vet, luckily we have one nearby. But even she is confused about what is going on. Chickens don’t make it easy on us, even for the avian vets!

    Coccidiosis

I’m glad they’re better now. Thanks for responding! Did any of yours go down?

    Coccidiosis

Do you remember about how long after the sulfa drugs the chickens started feeling better? Mine still hasn’t stood up. She tries when I help her but she’s really weak still.

    Coccidiosis

Thanks so much. It’s tough and all the tube feeding and physical therapy is emotionally draining. I’ll finish out her round of medication at least and then reevaluate. That was very helpful to me that you said that, thanks again!

    Coccidiosis

Saturday, so today is day number 5. It’s being given every 12 hours. She has had nine doses so far.

    Coccidiosis

Based on that treatment, do you think she should already be improving? How long would you tube feed before euthanizing her with the assumption it is Marek's. If that happens, we need to plan it to be able to send her to the state lab for a definitive answer.

    Coccidiosis

A sulfa drug was prescribed every 12 hours for 7 days. The vet had me add it to her tube feeding. She said that was the strongest because that chicken is so sick. She said to use Corid on the others since they seem to be okay. Marek's is what I'm scared of because if it is Marek's, I don't...

    Coccidiosis

Thank you for this! The flock is acting normal but this one girl is not. She is not drinking or eating on her own, just the tube feeding. She wan't given Corid, she was given a stronger sulfa medication, I don't recal the name of it. It is prescribed every 12 hours for 7 days. The vet said...

    Coccidiosis

I previously posted about a chicken that went down last Thursday. The vet was concerned about worms, coccidiosis, and she never excludes Mareks. She immediately began treatment for worms and antibiotics because the vet knew of the farm we got them from and said she had seen parasites in their...

Sick Golden Sexlink Chicken - Need Ideas on Cause

She said the sick chicken was already dewormed and she wants the flock treated with the Corid before she treats the nematode because the nematode levels were very low. The sick chicken still isn't improving. We may have to euthanize her, we don't know if we are just torturing her keeping her...

Sick Golden Sexlink Chicken - Need Ideas on Cause

Vet just called. Flock was positive for coccidiosis and a nematode. She wants us to treat the coccidiosis with corid for the flock. The sick chicken is still not walking. The vet said to give her a few days but she thought we should already see improvement if the parasites were the only...

Sick Golden Sexlink Chicken - Need Ideas on Cause

Thank you! The vet checked and couldn’t feel anything. She said the abdomen felt good. I don’t think she has laid yet. I hope she isn’t suffering.

Sick Golden Sexlink Chicken - Need Ideas on Cause

These are from today. She hasn’t stood up today but she did move herself in her crate last night. I tube fed her and she was a little more feisty about it today than she was yesterday. Her crop is full now. Her fecal is the same as yesterday. The vet said the flock fecal test will be back...

Sick Golden Sexlink Chicken - Need Ideas on Cause

Thank you. The vet mentioned Mareks because she said she always keeps that on her mind when there is a mystery illness. Do you know how long Mareks lasts before the chicken dies? The vet saw her poop and said it showed she was digesting food and was also hydrated. So that was good. She was...

Sick Golden Sexlink Chicken - Need Ideas on Cause

We have a Golden Sexlink Chicken that is at least 30 weeks old. She was purchased as a "coop-ready 6-11week old" chicken back in June. We noticed she would sleep on the floor of the coop while the other chickens slept on various levels of the roosting bars (more than enough space for everyone...

4-6 month old Buff Brahmas died - new chicken owner

Thank you! We added more to the coop and run. It was shocking because according to everything else we read, there was enough. But after adding more, the chickens seem more relaxed so I think that was probably an issue. Its so rough when you try so hard and then still have a tragedy happen.
