    Odd shaped egg?

I do have oyster shell out every day in a small dish. All 10 hens are under a year old, 2 being a few months older than the other 8. The past few nights I've been late getting out to the coop to turn the inside light off, could that affect them? I know light plays a big part in egg production

    Odd shaped egg?

This is the second day in a row I've found an egg like this in the box. Any ideas what happened or may have caused it? This one is also a little lighter in color than yesterday's and not sure which hen is laying it because no one is acting out of the norm

    Possible prolapse

Put her back in at bedtime, hadn't seen anything coming out of her vent!! She wouldn't roost though and wanted to be in a nesting box so gave her 30 minutes and checked and she laid a good, small hard shelled egg and nothing was popping out of the vent after!

    Possible prolapse

Thank you! That's why I'm gonna keep her separated for a day or two to make sure it's not going to continue popping out, and hopefully keep her from straining or laying if she is one of the ones laying no shell/soft shell eggs

    Possible prolapse

I think if it's not poking out at bedtime I'll take her back out to the coop at bedtime. I have one older hen who is very picky and not very nice to my reds 🤦

    Possible prolapse

This was the best I could get this am, she isn't thrilled about me taking pictures of it 🤣 It didn't seem to pop out unless she was straining so I sprayed it down with the healxcel again, and she got another calcium tablet. She is pooping, eating and drinking fine so I'm hoping a few days...

    Possible prolapse

I don't have a picture, I planned on getting one tomorrow. I have her downstairs where it's quiet and dark for now. The spray Ive been using is a 5 in 1 wound care and has been keeping it moist! I didn't notice any off colored tissue, just the fleshy bit popping out. I'm going to attempt to give...

    Possible prolapse

One of my 6 month RIR hens has what I believe to be a prolapse. I noticed a small piece of reddish flesh sticking out from her vent today, and since have separated her. I just started them on some calcium pills today because i've been having a few shell less/soft shell eggs under their perches...

    RIR pullets or cockerels?

Thank you for the input!! They looked all pullet to me, but after my first batch of 7 that turned into 5 cockerels and only 2 pullets I'm nervous to have that happen again, and yes that was a typo, my phone autocorrects it all the time for some reason 😂

    New to Chickens in Maine!

    (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? This is our first year of chickens, first batch in June and added another 8 in August in hopes to have more pullets since the first 7 were 5 cockerels and only 2 hens (2) How many chickens do you have right now? 11, but the rooster...

    RIR pullets or cockerels?

Got all 8 from TSC marked as Olive egger pullets...definitely not olive eggers. They are right around 16-17 weeks old at this point, no one is crowing and all seem to have small pinkish combs and very little wattles as of right now. I've been crossing my fingers that they are all pullets but...
