While it’s sad the other chickens passed in the incident new life is always very exciting! My condolences on your loss but I wish you nothing but the best with your newly established flock family! Like I said before please update this thread further as your lovely chicks mature!
I’ll be watching!
Personally I’d say leave the chicks with the mama, they know how to raise their kids far better than we do in most cases. Obviously not all hens are meant to be mothers but I’d just keep an eye on her and make sure she’s doing all the things she should
Boy is it starting to warm up out here! But the chicks love the heat and spend a lot of the day basking in the California sun enjoy these pictures of my lil guys and galliformes
No updates as of today however the chicks are doing well and very social with me! I've also noticed I started posting these lovely chicks after they were quite a bit older! so please enjoy this video of the chicks when they were still young and merely exploring the outside
Adorable little guy! thank you so much i'm sure you as much as anyone know how little information is out there for some of these breeds so seeing a chick in a similar state to mine does reinforce.
Crazy late response I know! I was going back through my old account posts and saw you had replied to me! I use CSP (Clip studio paint) for all of my pieces my online name is EvolutionAntix if you'd like to find my deviantart I'm also working on a speculative evolution project on instagram called...
I've owned chickens for years now but usually ones with a substantial amount more facial feathering haha, My main worry more so was the patches of featherless skin on the jaw where the wattles are and near the eyes etc. But despite my research on this breed before purchase I am certain to miss a...
I’ve got an Indio Gigante cockerel outside with the other chicks and I assumed the loss of feathering on his face was normal for a breed I know loses the majority of their face feathers but recently a friend of mine told me it looks like fowl pox early on and the one comment alone has made me...
Pardon how dark the images are, we’re sitting in the shade to beat the heat, here are 3 images of some of the chicks! The lovely little cockerel is featured as well they are all beginning to really warm up to me and lose their chick fear going as far to jump up into my lap!
The fence reinforcements seem to have worked wonderfully! We’ve had a few visitors along the fence line since our last post however nobody managed to get in!
Also our injured chick mentioned in the last post has fully recovered after a vet visit and some time in isolation they are once again...
Sadly while cooking and allowing the chicks to enjoy the heat of the spring here, I heard my dog snarling in the backyard only to find him fighting with a coyote that had broken into our yard. He made out with one of our chicks and injured another one however the injured chick has since...
Pardon the less than ideal photo quality! But this is my suspected cockerel. It’s too early to tell 100% but the first to gain redness in the comb, heaviest in weight, and also the tallest of the flock all points (in my opinion) to rooster.
He’s also got a bizarre beak compared to the rest...
This here is an older video roughly... 3-4 days old i'd say?
But here shows a few more of the babies scratching away at the grass when it was just starting to warm up.
