I'm in the process of constructing a 10 x 20 hoophouse adjacent to the main run. My intention had been to grow them out there, in view of each other, before graduating them out.
Now, with the portal idea, I can see how they can graduate themselves!!

If there's an open-top feed bag, and a small slit is cut into each bottom corner, and conduit slipped into the bags . . it may take a few of these doubled bags to make the length, but no sew or glue . . .

I have several vertical tray rocking incus, and I move the eggs to a horizontal hatcher. I'm wondering if the biddie has been prepping for vertical pipping by now? To complicate things, my birds start hatching the day after I place them in the hatcher...

I'm also in N ID (Blanchard Area) and am curious regarding your sand-or-not decision, based on freezing temps . . we've had several days of minus 15 last month!
Happy story ending - Today is one day after the due date, and 40+ have successfully hatched. A few eggs left; one I hear a peeper inside, but all are eating & drinking in the brooder!

50 eggs in lockdown on #18 (2 days ago), then 1 peeper broke out on 19 (yesterday, Wed) and is wandering around for nearly 24 hrs now, calling siblings . .
So, I know there's a Do Not Disturb order in place which is usually in effect for 48 hours. My problem is that's about when the rest are...
Still finding out how to use this place; I'm a bit of a dinosaur . . .
