I moved them outside at 2 weeks. Yay or nay?

I’m in central Texas. We hardly get any rain. Especially once May is over. I keep diatomaceous earth on hand to try to keep the flies away but I don’t think it’s working. Is there a chicken scratch recipe?

I’ve had the chicks for 7 weeks now. They seem to be doing fine. The tractor supply coop gives them inside and protected outside room. They are all feathers now. We still feed them chick food, the bag says we can feed them this for up to 16 weeks. I think they are now doing what I’ve heard as...

I went ahead and got that coop from tractor supply. It’s what we need and I have zero time to build one. So far it’s working out great. And I have the warming plate in there as well. Chicks seem happy they can come and go as they please.

Based on that it seems my plate works just fine

Aha. I didn’t know that’s how they worked. That makes sense now. If I put it back in I will use the legs and mount it on the ground instead of hung high. That’s for that info about plates. They looked cold so I put the heat lamp back in.

Do you have the EcoGlow 600? It says it’s for indoor use only.

I moved them outside at 2 weeks. Yay or nay?

Hey. I set this up yesterday and neither setting really puts out much heat compared to the heat lamp. Is that normal for this device? I read reviews on TS and they were so so. Some made the same comments about it not being that warm. The responses from TS are that it has an internal thermostat...

I have 4. Seems like they need a lot of room. Ugh

Anyone have an opinion on this coop? Saw it today at tractor supply https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/producers-pride-mini-defender-coop-mdc001

I got the warming plate today and set it to brooder mode. I hung it with chain from the top of the dog cage. I also got the 2 yr warranty for $8. Several reviews said it broke after a year or two. I’ll check on the girls later and see how they are doing

I checked on the Golden Girls. All happy chicks this morning. But I’m still going to TS today to get that warming plate. The heat lamp does make me nervous fire wise

This one has multiple mounting options https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/producers-pride-brooder-and-coop-heater-1299682?cid=Shopping-Google-Product-1299682&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD3fmFNAWTi08tJ8CpAZH0UuRnJsR&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvKeNpsqshQMVITHUAR2zaQq4EAQYASABEgKX3_D_BwE

I’ve been concerned about the heat lamp being a fire hazard. Probably can’t see from the photo but we don’t have it clamped. We actually have it hanging from a couple zip ties. I think I may make a tractor supply trip tomorrow to look for that heating plate

Is there a brand name of the coop? I would like more info on it and possibly purchase one

The tray actually sits inside the enclosure of the cage so it’s impossible to slide it out

We need to buy or build a coop for them in the same spot where the cage currently is. I have no idea about building a coop but am pretty handy with woodworking. I would just need some advice or suggestions.

It’s pretty tight all the way around except for the front as far as access for predators. The gaps in the cage wires are about 1 1/2 inch and obviously we keep the cage closed when we are not out there with them

Wow. So many different responses. It is a wire dog cage. I will take a pic or two and post them. I never thought about predators. Never seen any coons, not saying there are none. Only thing I’ve seen is a squirrel every now and then. But I’ve never been out all night when coons are usually out
