Chick pipped on DAY 18! Help?

Well, one of her sisters hatched yesterday (day 19) evening, their brother hatched last night while I was asleep, then another female chick and two male chicks of the same breed hatched sometime between 9 and 3 today, along with a LF Buff Brahma mix (day 20), and three Buff Brahma mix eggs also...

Chick pipped on DAY 18! Help?

Well, she hatched today and seems to be normal (if my feather sexing is correct, she is a hen). Her belly was bleeding a little earlier, but I've had lots of chicks hatch and bleed a little and she's fine now. And of course there are three more eggs of the same breed pipped Maybe since they...

Chick pipped on DAY 18! Help?

Hmm, I didn't know about the oxygen thing. I knew they pipped internally and then externally shortly after, but I thought they knew to start trying to "escape" once they absorbed the yolk. Do you know what triggers a chick to pip internally?

    Question on turning

Just like chicken eggs, turn them three times a day (when you wake up, whenever you get home from work/school/whatever, and before you go to sleep).

Can I leave a dead chick in the incubator until the end of the hatch?

When this has happened to me before I just leave it until I clean out all of the egg shells and unhatched eggs, mostly for convenience. It really doesn't harm anything unless your hatch is taking unusually long and it starts to smell. If it bothers you seeing a dead chick (kinda sad/gross) go...

Chick pipped on DAY 18! Help?

Ok, I have an egg that pipped either late day 18 or early day 19 (it was about midnight when I noticed). I know bantams are notoriously early hatchers (although all 3 times I've hatched bantams and LF together they hatched at the same time), and this is an F2 bantam Phoenix x bantam Frizzle. I...

    Ameraucanas from Huckleberry Farm

I want to put a BCM (if they hatch) in with the Ameraucanas soI can hatch some OEs next year. An Ameraucana/Faverolles cross would have to be the most adorable creature on the planet! So much face-fluff! Squee! My Faverolles will be joining my free-ranging flock with a Buff Brahma rooster, so...

    Ameraucanas from Huckleberry Farm

Cool! Yay baby Ameraucanas! If they hatched for you, since you are much further away, I blame my incubator. I ended up getting a black chick and a blue hen from Sawmill Chicken Farm. The hen is beautiful, and I also ended up getting two eggs she laid and four eggs from their other hens (also...

    anything south GA.

North of Atlanta, about 5 hours from Savannah. It's pretty far, we go because we also have friends in Atlanta, and I wish there were more further south. I forgot to mention the bantam show in Swainsboro, which was in March. It's pretty small, though. The CVPA winter poultry show was HUGE...

how many chickens can i have...?

I personally try not to have roosts directly above each other, chickens poop a lot at night and bathing poop-covered chickens is not fun But if they are at an angle where that can't happen, two should be fine - if each is four feet long that gives them each a little over a foot of roost space.

how many chickens can i have...?

If they'll have a large run and free-range, 4-6 would be perfect

    Chicken wire and hardware cloth

My tractor is entirely chicken wire and I've had 3 Sebrights living in it with no problems at all for months. So long as you have an enclosed corner that they can easily retreat to, they should be safe from things like raccoons, possums, etc.

how many chickens can i have...?

It is approximately 12 square feet. If you are going to free-range or will have a run with >10 square feet per bird, then that will work for up to 6 chickens (they will have 2 square feet each because they will only use it for sleeping. However, if you will have a smaller run (<6 feet each)...

Can you help? Which breed and/or type is this girl?

She looks like some sort of Game breed, and definitely Wheaten variety, though she may be mixed-breed. It looks like she may have a pea comb, but I can't tell very well from the photo. Is it a pea comb (like this), or a single comb (like this)? How big is she? Do you think you could take a...

    anything south GA.

There is a table top Serama show that I am going to in Jefferson, GA, on May 26th, but that is the only one I know of (Peach State Serama show). There was one in Jefferson in January and and the CVPA poultry show was in February, which are annual. If anyone does know of any other shows in...

I am switching my dogs to raw (Need people with experience)

Okay, thanks. This morning they didn't get fed til about 10:00 (I sleep really late on weekends...) and she did eat, so I guess she's just not hungry when I usually feed them at about 6:30. I've been giving her enough to make up for it in the evenings, so it's not like she isn't eating as much...

I am switching my dogs to raw (Need people with experience)

Okay, cool. When we bought/processed three pigs a while ago we kept heart and liver and cooked it and gave a little to the dogs as treats with their food, and it's in the freezer right now so I think I'll chop it up and use it. We had three dehydrators about a year ago, but somehow between...

I am switching my dogs to raw (Need people with experience)

Well, it turns out that what we thought was old fish in the freezer that we gave them last weekend was actually alligator They had no issues after they ate it and it as been in the freezer a couple months (which would kill any parasites), so I guess it was fine. Anyway, they've all been doing...
