    Hen cannot walk

I realized that I never posted how this all turned out. We did euthanize her, and then necropsied her. She unfortunately had internally laid. I was glad we decided to put her out of her misery.

Pale Comb and twitchy head movements

Hello, I seem to be having a growing problem with my flock of 35 hens. They range in age from 8 months to 6 years old, but this seems to be affecting only the younger birds at this point. 4 days ago, I notice a hen who was puffed up, comb pale and occasionally shaking her head. No discharge...

    Hen cannot walk

I do not feel anything abnormal when I feel her legs. My more experienced chicken friend did not either. When I pick her up she moves her legs a lot, kicking as in "put me down." When you put her down she falls right over.

    Hen cannot walk

Here are 2 pictures of the hen. I also included the pics I took of the stuff that came out of here about 6 weeks ago. To answer both posters...her belly is not bigger between her legs. Her poop is normal now. The diarrhea 4 days ago was brown and tan and very smelly, more in line with dog...

    Hen cannot walk

I am wondering if someone has a clue about a 3 year Golden Comet hen's health issues. I found her in my barn 4 days ago, ruffled feathers, hunkered down and was not able to maintain her balance. I brought her into the house to warm up and monitor her behavior/eating. She is perky, will eat...

    RATS - In the coop

I second Flock Mistress -- I used the bait, put it down all rat holes I could find, two weeks later, no rats, no return. We have secured the coop (an old horse foaling stall) with hardware cloth all around (due to a weasel attack) also, which should greatly reduce access for rats. My barn cat...

Can You Get A "Mutt" From A Hatchery?

On the "mutt" issue....I love my chickens, every one....(and my friends are beginning to be a bit alarmed ), but I do take a bit of issue with the "hybrid vigor" idea. The only way you may have hybrid vigor is if you have two good parents to produce the offspring. If you breed a lab with bad...

Mink/Weasel -- How to protect your flock

Hi, I'm a new member, but have been reading the forums to learn. We've lost hens in the past while they were free ranging to a feral cat and a fox. I can deal with that, not happy, but at least I know how to keep them safe(r). Last week we had what we think is a mink or weasel get in the coop...
