    Mutt ducks thread

I have no idea if this is how you start a "thread", but I was just wondering if anyone has any pictures of pretty or interesting looking mutt ducks! Maybe a story to go along with it? I think others would be interested in seeing them as well.

In love with a rescued mallard duckling. Can we keep her?

And you could always just call it a pet quality gray call duck.

In love with a rescued mallard duckling. Can we keep her?

I have purchased mallard ducklings with nothing to mark them as captive hatched. I have also raised orphaned Canada geese without a permit. Truthfully, when it comes to something as common as a mallard, no one is going to want to go out of their way to cause trouble. The absolute worst that...

    Duck x Goose?

I'm posting from my phone, but I can try hopping on the computer tomorrow to post one.

    Duck x Goose?

Hmm. Very interesting! Unfortunately I don't think this little guy will survive. He seems kinda weak. Eats like a day old does, just nibbles. Thanks for the info!

    Duck x Goose?

It's definitely not a goose, unless the goose somehow managed to jump 4 feet up into the Muscovy nest and then deposit a VERY small (well, compared to a goose egg) egg. And of it was a goose, it would be a weird looking gosling. Lol. It doesn't look like a Muscovy, and I've raised a LOT. It's...

    Duck x Goose?

I know this is probably a dumb question. I've never heard of it happening, and it wouldn't seem possible. I had a clutch of Muscovy ducklings hatch about 3 weeks ago. All of them had the normal eye stripes and what not, except for one. This guy has a slightly different looking bill, a more...

    Call Duck genetics surprise?

I'll try to get some pics up soon! They're adorable. Some are a month old and then the others are like 3 days old. One of the older snowy ducklings has buff coloring in the white instead of the dark. I'm really excited to see what it'll end up looking like!

    Call Duck genetics surprise?

So I have 2 blue fawn hens, light phase blue fawn hen(?) , a pastel drake, and a blue phase snowy drake all in the same pen. I've gotten ducklings that I'm not sure are correct to the genetic code or whatever. I have gotten blue fawn, gray, pastel, apricot, maybe buttercotch, white, and snowy...

    Flying

The only domestic goose that can actually fly is the cotton patch goose. But they're extremely rare, so I doubt you'll end up with any. I've had a few china and roman geese that could fly, but they needed a tail wind and about a hundred feet of running before they could get airborn. A 3 foot...

do birds of prey kill full grown ducks?

I think it totally depends on the individual predator, and prey. We live in the country, and the resident great horned owl that lives here will take anything mallard sized or smaller. Anything larger, he doesn't bother. The few hawks that visit won't even take a duckling. Better to be safe than...

    Special needs duckling...needs help!

Hmm. Very good idea! And he/she is a blue fawn, so I'd love for him to stay around. Since the drakes are blue phase snowy and pastel, with the hens being blue fawn and light phase blue fawn/apricot, I REALLY want a blue fawn drake. So far only two of the ducklings have been blue fawn, the rest...

    Special needs duckling...needs help!

Well actually the main issue is him not being able to right himself correctly with one leg. So when he flips over, I have to run to the rescue. The "down syndrome" duckling passed on when he was on his back. Hopefully this lil guy will manage. He's the most lovable and curious out of all of...

    Special needs duckling...needs help!

One of my Call ducklings hatched with an unfortunate defect. The knee joint of one leg seems to be fused in place. Unfortunately I don't have the heart to put the little guy down. He acts completely normal otherwise, but he does seem to have a problem with uprighting himself when he flips over...

    Removing ducklings from hatcher early...?

2 of my Call ducklings hatched last evening, and they're taking quite awhile to dry off. They seem to be shivering a lot as well. I'm wondering if the higher humidity is making them colder. I don't really want to raise the temp, because of the other eggs, but wasn't sure how good it would be to...

    Quick response needed!!! :)

Lol. Yes he is. I'm kinda surprised. The two that have hatched so far def look more like my snowy drake is the father. I'm pretty new to calls, but I would have thought that they'd be anything but snowy, considering the hens are blue fawns. Hmm. Oh well, it'll be neat to see how they turn out...

    Quick response needed!!! :)

Thanks everyone! I got the video! He looks like he's an apricot (but I did have a blue phase(?) snowy in with the blue fawns). Of course he decided he would hatch but keep his head inside the shell. I'll put the video and pics up once I can get a few pics of the fluffy ducklings.

    Quick response needed!!! :)

My call eggs are hatching! Another is gonna pop out any minute here! I was wondering if the light from camera would bother him if I was to take a video of it? Figured it might make for a neat video!

    Community nesting...

Just wondering if anyone has had Call hens (or other ducks) lay and set a community nest with success? My Call girls are a very close knit group. They have always taken the same days off from laying even. Now two of them decided it's time to sit, and they plan on doing it right next to each...

Then I would assume she's a light phase of something or else a mix?
