You guys are awesome!! Thank you for all your help and lovely pictures! Seems like it doesn't have to be as elaborate as I was dreading....
So another question, it seems like peafowl get along with chickens? It would make things much easier if I could just put them in the chicken coop (which...
Hey guys!
So I am considering getting some peacocks in the Spring, and just wanted a question about weather cleared up. So I live in Idaho, where it can get pretty cold here for about 8 months out of the year, mid to high 20s most of the day, and it can drop below zero sometimes at night...
Hmmm. That's some pretty weird chicken behavior! Has this hen successfully hatched and raised chicks before? Maybe she's having some first-time troubles? Well, if she's not taking care of it, it will die, so I think your best course of action is to try to put the chick under another hen, maybe...
Hello Everybody!
We have had a huge blizzard roaring all day, with a lot of wind and snow. We went outside to check the animals and found one of our female turkeys outside in the storm! She had ice and snow covering her body, and seemed chilled to the bone. We brought her inside to let her warm...
Its so great to be on again! I haven't been on in FOREVER!
Anyways, I am here to ask a question to my fellow Araucana owners.
I have one 30 week old Araucana, who has been giving me about 6 eggs a week since she started laying. That is, until the weather got cold. She hasn't laid ONE egg in 3...
I make some money with my hens! I sell my eggs for $4.00 a doz (people can''t get enough of those green eggs!)! But, once you add up the fees for the maintenance of the chickens, their feed being $20 a bag, and I need a bag every 3 weeks, then, there is the cod liver oil to get my eggs Omega-3...
I *think* that you will be inviting trouble, as integration itself is a not a peaceful thing. I think if you introduce another new chicken, the others will pick on her as well as the d' uccle. With time, she will be a full member of the flock. I know how you feel, I recently introduced a few new...
Don't worry! We all feel this, but if they are safe in their run, they'll be ok! But I am a but confused, are they in their run, or are they ranging? I'm sure that they will be OK ranging too, I personally have never had a predator take a ranging hen.
I have had the most luck with 24-hour feed for my meaties, if they don't have constant feed to support their rapid growth, they could die. However, I use the 12on 12off for my layers.
Hello all!
So with the skyrocketing feed price in my area, I have been trying to give less and less feed, and more and more ranging, and kitchen scraps to my hens this summer, but considering we just had our first freeze last night, I know winter's a-comin, and my hens look a bit too thin for...
