Get a small bucket and put the water nipples in the bottom of it. The chicks learn to use them pretty quickly. Clean water and no mess. Saves time as well because you don’t have to fill their water as often.
Im
just going by my experience. I’ve had shipped chicks and those I’ve hatched figure it out in very little time. Maybe my chicks are just smarter than the ones you’ve read about. LOL!!!
The
The nipples are pretty simple. It’s just a stainless steel plunger and easy for them to operate. I put 3 or 4 nipples in the bottom of a 5-gallon bucket and hanger it. With a lid on the bucket the water stays clean. I use a stock tank heater in winter to keep the water from freezing.
They will figure it out quickly. They are naturally curious and once one of them uses it they’ll all join in. I’d offer both for a few days, but then I’d let them use the nipples. I have 5 gallon buckets with nipples and the water stays clean and I only have to fill every three days or so even...
Thats what I do.....plus I run a long bolt up through the middle of the bucket and put a funnel upside down in the bucket to push the feed to the sides. Works great
I have a few 16 week old cockerels that I need to rehome. I hatched out some of my backyard flock eggs so they are all mixed breed. I live in extreme western KY and can send pics if anyone is interested. Thank you.
Sorry it’s been a few days. I’ve been working a lot of overtime at work. The chick seems to be doing ok so far and is eating and drinking. I’m beginning to think it may just have poor eyesight. There is no pasty butt and I usually only have one or two episodes with each batch of chicks. It is in...
I have an 8 day old chick that seems to be blind. It’s eyes are always closed and it doesn’t move quickly (carefully not lethargic) around the brooder, but it seems otherwise healthy. I’ve witnessed it eating and drinking and it is obviously getting enough to survive or it would have died by...
I set 42 eggs from my backyard flock on December 29th (farmers almanac). I’m anxious to see how well I do. Will be candling at 7 and 14 days in. Wish me luck!!
I've ordered from them several times. Been nothing but happy with their customer service and chicks. Only bad experience was when the USPS sent the chicks the wrong way and took an extra day to get them. Lost almost half of the 36 shipped, but not McMurray's fault. They credited me for the lost...
I prefer the pellets because my large fowl birds seem to waste some of the crumbles. They do not go through so much feed when I use the pellets. Plus, if they do rake some out of the feeder, they clean it up more easily in pellet form. I can see where smaller birds might prefer the crumbles.
Ok I'm a newby and was fortunate enough to hatch 18 of 26 this week. I had 36 total shipped eggs and four of my back yard mixes. 12 eggs from one shipped were very well packaged but none of them even started developing. They were about 7 days old when they went into the bator. Out of the other...
