I was going to post our biggest egg from yesterday, 2 1/2 inches and 64g. I thought it must be a record, but it is dwarfed by these monsters. Congratulations and call Guiness.
We placed porcelain eggs in two of the nesting boxes and that is were they started laying, except for one hen. She lays her eggs in the trash can that holds the hay. It is outside the coop, but inside the run. Considering adding more nesting boxes with lots more hay in them for her.
Congratulations to the first egg-ers! We now have three out of nine laying. We have gotten olives, lt browns, and today a large off-white double yoked one. We are so proud of our girls.
I read on here that they like yogurt and I also had a bunch of instant grits packets, so we created yogrit. I cooked the grits, let cool, and mixed with a cup or two of plain yogurt. All nine hens ate out of the same bowl, at the same time, until they had licked the bowl clean! We have done this...
We just noticed the dance today and came here first to see what was going on. Thanks for the information for us new eggs. All nine are 20 weeks, so hopefully they will lay soon.
We saw our first snake in the coop yesterday; too bad for him because our girls have not laid any eggs yet! Thanks for the ideas. We are going to try the minnow traps with fake eggs outside the coop and put up smaller wire around the bottom half.
I have 9 hens (not sure of breeds, pics on my page) that are 14 weeks. I have been checking every morning, but nothing yet. Will post a pic of the first!
I'd love to see some pics of it when you're done. I've been using a small dog/cat food type dispenser. It works okay, but there is some waste when they get to scratchin'.
