I'm sorry I should have clarified. I used Corid for coccidia and fenbendazole for round worms. Just I case. But her appetite continues to decline despite both treatments being last Sunday.
I looked into clostridium treatments and will try that last hoorah.
I need advice!!!
I have an 8-10 month old brahma chick that I hatched last fall. It's winter here and it's the time of year I usually do a general dewormer b/c we have cocci in the soil and I try to be proactive.
So as I was going out to check them all out, on a warmer day than usual, I...
A coworker is going through a rough divorce and all the animals are being dispersed. I offered to help her place the chickens as I already have too many!
flock of 14 hens. They can go as one or be split. They are all under a year old, and started laying within the last month or so. There are...
Thank you. I'm going to bring him by the vet tomorrow and see what we can do! He's out and about! I forgot to close his cage and he was exploring the house when I got home!
One note, as I'm cleaning him up today. The worst wound is right under his armpit, where we would take blood from. So there's a vessel there. It's kinda green like bruising. Do you suppose this is normal or is it infection? The skin is nice, not moist or anything, looks clean, but the skin is...
Thanks! He's much perkier today. Seems to standing more than squatting. He's coming out of his box to eat his mush I made for him! Still dropping the wing. If there is a break somewhere are they likely to heal with tlc? Maybe just be deformed? Or is it very bad?
Cleaned him up and found vetericyn spray! None of the punctures look life threatening so long as I can keep them for infection. I'm not sure if anything is broken or he's just painful. Droopy wing, sagging to the side and down. He's unbalanced but can walk.
Ps, I put the wire on the ground too to avoid sneaky ones from digging under. I felt it was secure but one corner wasn't right enough so he spread the wire until it puckered open.
It was a tractor I made with chicken wire. It held up for several weeks giving me false security.
Chicken wire, zip ties and a wood frame for the door. I used an old greenhouse frame. He tested it until he found a weak spot it looks. Thankfully it isn't my coop or big run. But this was my grow...
Woke up to all but two of my hatched chicks missing or dead. Caught the fox with head almost stuck in the netting of my tractor. Found one later in the morning after we went looking for the fox.
He's stressed but there seems to be bite wounds on each side of his body, under the wings and a...
I also like the hot wire netting. The coyote was successfull last year at convincing the hens to fly out, then she picked a couple off. Now we only do it while we are home. I like it bc I can move it and navigate them away from my garden! Crossing fingers but we haven't had a hawk problem but...
I used an old greenhouse frame for my tractor with chicken wire wrapped thoroughly around and underneath. It was intended to grow out my babies until they were big enough to incorporate with the big girls. It was wrapped, pinned and ziplock tied at any corner but he chewed at a corner enough to...
Ugh, just lost all but one chick to a fox this morning. He or she found a weak link in my chicken tractor after 4 weeks! ****. All I have is a wounded roo. Anyone know of any swaps that will have older pullets? Can't trust my tractor so they'll have to incorporate into my pen inside a pen system...
At what age can I evaluate my chicks better for actual APA standards? I bought some bkue and some black fertilized eggs. They are 5 weeks old now. I'm not happy with their cheeks but their colors seem true to breed.
