Comment by 'BonnieC3' in article 'Mixed flocks - How does it work?'

One thing the article does not touch on and I wish it did is keeping chickens and turkeys together. I've always read and been told you cannot do this due to blackhead parasites that chickens are basically immune to and will kill turkeys. Is there a way to raise these birds together?

    Laying hen gasping for air.

My daughter works at a little shop that sells organic stuff. They keep a flock of about 20 laying hens out back of the store to sell their organic eggs. She just brought me one of the hens that is gasping for air. They didn't know what to do. I've examined her. She looks to be an adult...

    Questions about pullorum certificate....

This is so frustrating! I've spent a lot of time online trying to find out my state's regulations. I can only assume "they" make it confusing on purpose. I've just started selling hatching eggs and wasn't aware of the regulations... then BAM! My world got shaken just like when I wanted to...

What breeding(s) are used to create commercial "cornish x rocks"?

For a long time I believed what I call monster birds, the super fast growing chicks called "cornish x rocks" you can order were a cross between Standard White Cornish and Standard White Rock chickens. Then I was told it was a two step hybridization. Can anybody tell me the breedings (which...

    What breed is this?

A lady from my church died recently and the family asked if I would take her chickens. She had bought them this spring, I don't know from where. These have been super fast growing and are big birds with yellow legs and rose combs . I have searched chicken breed photos and asked lots of...

What breed to start with-Sustainable meat bird flock

Howdy, I'm new here. We have a small farm in Western NC and raise chickens, ducks, geese, dairy goats and one dear Jersey cow... I was just browsing the postings I saw "Real Men Can Cook" and saw that you raise Standard White Cornish. I have raised Dark Cornish for years and love them so...
