How long after a hen's chicks are "weaned" from mamma before she will start laying eggs again? Had my first broody hen hatch one chick about 8 weeks ago. I just put mamma back with the rest of the flock. So how long does it normally take before they start laying again?

She's about 1 year, 1 1/2 years. Rest of the flock doesn't sound like her, she's the only one. Just noticed it last night. Nothing's changed with their coop or around our house. Is a respiratory infection serious, could she die from it?

Hope you get some babies! We have 2 hatching right now. I took 2 from the nest nobody was sitting on and put them in an incubator. Both are hatching. So excited!!! Have quail eggs that are due to hatch Tuesday. I hope most of those hatch too. Good luck.

My banty hen keeps switching between two nests. Any suggestions? She'll sit in one nest for 2 or 3 days and then I find her in the nest right next to the one she had been sitting in. So I take the eggs and put them back under her. Will they still hatch? Why would she keep switching nests?
