    Vermont- That has got to be pretty funny! With the added height to the lip- neither laying pullet (even the brand new layer) has kicked any pine shavings out. I don't hear the egg hit the floor of the nesting boxes anymore. Enjoy your girls! -Jerie

    Thanks for all the suggestions! The lip to the nesting boxes is now 4" and that seems to have stopped the pine shavings from being thrown all about. (Or else our the pullet currently laying has quit tossing it about!) -Jerie

    Azygous- Wow- that seems quite high- our box openings are 12" high- how tall are yours? Would the girls have an issue jumping through a 6" high opening? thanks for your help!

    Sourland- Yes- was thinking that the lip is too low- my husband made the coop from pictures- not a plan. We knew the 12"x12" size- but did not realize they would kick stuff out! Do you have any issue with grass hay? Will need to look into that. thanks!
