On my desktop pc, using Chrome, it is on the far right, near the bottom and is faint, like a shadow, and looks like a ^ and then another one pointing down. Clicking on it, takes you up to the top or down to the bottom of a page.
The drop down menu on the Account button has Alert Preferences. Scroll down the list to Articles. Uncheck whatever you don't want to receive alerts on.

Try clicking on your name, the one in your avatar...I get a black background box (don't know how to do screen shots or I'd show it) and Profile Page is a choice there. Click on it.
For what it is worth, I am using Chrome.
@Blooie,
If you hold your cursor over the Account tab, a drop down menu will have a Your Profile Page near the top, under your name. Click on that, you will see your followers on the left.
Edited to say this next. choice is on the drop down on the Account tab...NOT on your profile page
There is...
@Blooie,
If you hold your cursor over the Alerts tab, a drop down list of Alerts will show. On the lower right, there is a "Alerts Preferences" choice.
Click on it and un-check the list of things you don't want an alert about.
