  1. The Farmers' Daughter

The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

10 were clear. 1 quit early. I think the largest culprit was temp. It's been all over the place, and the only form of heat I have is wood. It's a next to impossible task to keep the temps steady. I was also using a cheap, mercury style garden thermometer.
  2. The Farmers' Daughter

The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

I was talking with the breeder that I bought my buckeyes from. She said that all of the breeders in my area are having horrible hatch rates. Our temperatures and humidity are bouncing all over the place. I heat with wood, which doesn't keep the temps constant and it really dries out the air...

So, official final count is 0. :(
  4. The Farmers' Daughter

The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

That is just for temp right? What do you recommend for a hydrometer?
  5. The Farmers' Daughter

The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

Still 0. No pips, but 2 showed signs of movement when I did the water test. Day 23.5.
  6. The Farmers' Daughter

The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

Since I'm @ day 23 and no pips, I went ahead and did the water test. I've got 2 instead of 1 moving around. Phew. I didn't want one growing up all by itself. I think I'm going to buy a bator so that I can do staggered hatches.
  7. The Farmers' Daughter

The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

Been rocking and rolling for 13 hours now... only 1 of 3...going into day 23 now
  8. The Farmers' Daughter

The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

I played a you tube video of chicks... The one egg started wobbling around a lot more. That was hours ago. Still no pip :(
  9. The Farmers' Daughter

The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

I've got one starting to move!! Can you tell this is my 1st ever hatch?

Moisture on the glass means take a plug out right?
  12. The Farmers' Daughter

The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

I hear you. I lost 12 out of 15 prior to lockdown. I'm hoping to set some more once my 3 remaining are done.
  13. The Farmers' Daughter

The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

Do you recommend a water test?
  14. The Farmers' Daughter

The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

Yeah, I just checked and it's dropped to 98. When I candled them at lockdown I only saw solid black and the aircell.
  15. The Farmers' Daughter

The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

Day 21, 5 hours, 45 minutes. No pipping, no peeping, no movement
  16. The Farmers' Daughter

The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

Lockdown Only 3 out of 5 buckeyes made it. All 10 of the chanteclers were clear :( That one egg I was wondering about did start to form, but quit sometime in the past week.
  17. The Farmers' Daughter

The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

Well...after candling again, it looks like all of my chanteclers are infertile. I'll leave them in until lockdown. 3 of 5 buckeyes look like they're coming along nicely. Odd though. I can't see an air pocket in any of them.
  18. The Farmers' Daughter

The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

I'm bad. I've started collecting for my next round of incubation... 5 buckeye & 3 chantecler so far.
  19. The Farmers' Daughter

The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

I just got a Premier 1 for 50-55 chicks. I picked it because each leg can be individually adjusted. I can set it low on one end and higher on the other so they can decide what level of heat they want.
  20. The Farmers' Daughter

The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

It moves to whichever end is up.
