10 were clear. 1 quit early.
I think the largest culprit was temp. It's been all over the place, and the only form of heat I have is wood. It's a next to impossible task to keep the temps steady. I was also using a cheap, mercury style garden thermometer.
I was talking with the breeder that I bought my buckeyes from. She said that all of the breeders in my area are having horrible hatch rates. Our temperatures and humidity are bouncing all over the place. I heat with wood, which doesn't keep the temps constant and it really dries out the air...
Since I'm @ day 23 and no pips, I went ahead and did the water test. I've got 2 instead of 1 moving around. Phew. I didn't want one growing up all by itself.
I think I'm going to buy a bator so that I can do staggered hatches.
Lockdown
Only 3 out of 5 buckeyes made it. All 10 of the chanteclers were clear :(
That one egg I was wondering about did start to form, but quit sometime in the past week.
Well...after candling again, it looks like all of my chanteclers are infertile. I'll leave them in until lockdown. 3 of 5 buckeyes look like they're coming along nicely.
Odd though. I can't see an air pocket in any of them.
I just got a Premier 1 for 50-55 chicks. I picked it because each leg can be individually adjusted. I can set it low on one end and higher on the other so they can decide what level of heat they want.
