So... I have Light brahma hens, dark brahma hens, and a dark Brahma rooster coming. Black Jersey Giants. Salmon Faveroles, and Jubilees coming. Chicks. Had to start almost completely over. Dog killed 2 years worth of raising regular chickens, plus 2 Jubilee hens, and hurt the rooster. Buried...
Thank you! The strange feathered pair is really nice, when they are out, and clean...a little fluffier. They are more elongated looking than the original pair. I guess I can't say I have Cochins, anymore, lol. But I love them just the same. :)
I asked the lady. She says they only use one hatchery.
Ideal Poultry, out of Texas. Not to malign them, or anything, but I bought ALL my birds from that Southern States, and they only use the one hatchery.
WOW... "she" is the one I thought was pure after all this! Ok... I'll be back with the name of the hatchery. This isn't an only, though it was the first. The feed store I do business with. ..that most of the big farmers here do business with...got them as straight run cochin bantam. I have...
The white bantam hen, in the first 3 pix is the One that laid the eggs for the strange pair. The Frizzled rooster in the first 3 pix is the Papa. I hatched the eggs. So, there may be something up with Rob Roy's genetics, then. Yuki is Cochin, single comb, yellow legs, tan eggs. May be mystery...
HORRIBLE pix, but these are the newer black/red roosters in with the strange pair. Frizzled. Heavy, spiky comb, broad, and yellow heavy feathered legs.
The strange feathered pair... noticed they have a mostly single comb...the roo's is a bit broad, though. Yellow legs. Green eggs. Have to get better of the hen. Will go back out in a minute.
Oh, and eggs...if it does not bother her broody butt, lol.
Could be. I'll get pix. But, the hatchery the first pair came frin, sold them as pure cochin bantam. There were three. The white hen. The frizzled roo. And a tiny cochin roo with perfect feathers. Hawk got him free ranging. So I put the pair up. I'll get you some pix.
Oh...! And thanks for...
NO odd roosters. Don't have but one
other, a big Jubilee in his own pen.
The same feather defect that causes frizzle, causes some combs to be "thick", and spiky, flat/broad, rather than thin and single. The frizzled comb is not as attractive, to me, as the single. And, I'm just going off what...
I have had a pair of Cochin Bantams for two years. Rob Roy, and Yuki. He's Frizzled. She is Beautiful, Perfect, smooth regular feathers. The progeny have been Smooth, regular, OR Frizzled. The Frizzle has been of two types. First, a lovely tear drop shaped feather that curls gracefully, and I...
