Remember that 'required' and 'strongly recommended' are very different. If required, the business would have to pay for the vaccines for their staff, and few want to do that. If a known exposure happens when on the job, workman's comp kicks in instead.
The risk is for the person who handles an...
SSS is shorthand for "shoot, shovel, and shut up". Often mentioned when discussing predator attacks, especially by dogs.
I'm not aware of any professions that REQUIRE rabies vaccination of people, but plenty strongly recommend it. Maybe some of the wildlife handlers?
It's a safe as any...
It's amazing, not in a good way, how many people don't have their cats vaccinated! Right now, more cats than dogs test positive for rabies, because of this idiocy.
I talked to a veterinarian who had a pet practice in Ohio in the 1950's, and one Monday morning he had THREE rabid dogs in his...
So true! No way would people be challenged with live virus to see if they are protected or not. However, with rabies vaccine, we have lots of data on it's safety and efficacy.

It's recommended that veterinarians and others who...

WEAR GLOVES!!! The rabies virus does die pretty fast when dried, so old dry saliva is probably safe. Probably. The issue is when the pet is just involved with the possibly rabid critter, and the owner immediately rushes to handle the pet, fresh saliva and all. That's an exposure!
It's...
Sorry, but the human vaccine works great! Unvaccinated but exposed humans can die, and vaccinated humans don't. And vaccines work very well for animals that are listed on the vaccine label too. There's a huge amount of data on this topic!

Most domestic animals have rabies vaccine available to them, and it's smart to have dogs, cats, ferrets, horses, cattle, goats, and sheep vaccinated. Here in southern Michigan we are having a very good (BAD) year for rabid bats, and some other critters, and not vaccinating animals that you and...
