Dreaming of quail in my tiny urban backyard...eggs.....but meat....???!

I'm allowed to butcher at home, just not to sell. The meat can't leave the property without a license. Fine by me! I would only butcher for a meal every couple months. My dad and one of my sisters don't care about my chooks, but my mum and other sister like them. I'm the one who cares for them...

Dreaming of quail in my tiny urban backyard...eggs.....but meat....???!

I will start small! I'll just have to see how it goes. If I have too many males, and can't bring myself to kill them, I'll just have to sell them or give them yo someone who will eat them.

Not a huge deal, just though it would be cool! Definitely coturnix! Do you recommend jumbo? This habitat could technically house 60, but I'd probably start with about 12. Maybe oneday up to 20.

Dreaming of quail in my tiny urban backyard...eggs.....but meat....???!

It's got some leaf litter, but its a bit chunky. In the autumn I'll collect dead leaves and scrunch them up, perfect for nesting and foraging. A question, what type of quail lay blue eggs? And can multiple breeds live together?

Dreaming of quail in my tiny urban backyard...eggs.....but meat....???!

I've found an area in my backyard that could one day be a coop. It's the perfect environment, a tiny tree to shelter, against the fence, deep leaf litter floor....I hope in the next year or so I could look into getting some and this habitat would allow them to live their lives like they were...

Dreaming of quail in my tiny urban backyard...eggs.....but meat....???!

I’ve had some small pets and distant family members die, but I’m so oblivious of death. But things literally thrive off death. Things can’t live without death. Obviously we need to eat. One roast chicken I don’t buy from the store, a big fat broiler, living in a cage for its 8 week long life...

Dreaming of quail in my tiny urban backyard...eggs.....but meat....???!

There are so many pros! Not any actual cons except my guilt, but MANY things to get past. Another problem with having a bevy mainly for eggs, only processing excess males, meanies or injured bird etc. is I’ll probably get attached...I can’t speak from experience, my flock of chookens is just for...

Dreaming of quail in my tiny urban backyard...eggs.....but meat....???!

Thought I’d add this to the meat birds thread, if it’s relevant. So....it’s the middle of the night.....ok this sounds weird, but I’ve basically watched a dozen or so quail butchering videos...I’m going crazy in quarantine... I’ve only had chickens for 6 months! I dove in head first and don’t...
