I don’t know… I will have to unbox and build it. I have an older coop I plant to tear apart… I should be able to recycle the wire off of it to use if I need to make ventilation holes… I know I am raising it up off the ground already… so that will be a probably on some sort of bricks.
The planned crosses look interesting, can’t wait to see how they hatch out and mature… I have to wait and see if I get any Roos in the live chick order or from hatching eggs.
I really hope I get at least 1 pullet and cockerel from both batches of hatching eggs, but you know how it goes. The...
My understanding is Buckeyes where developed separately but then shown as RIR but the body type is different, at the same time RIR had a few Pea Combs, and Buckeyes had SC popping up so they sort of absorbed each other and then split. Buckeye is the only American Breed developed by a women.
I have some Buckeye Chicks ordered, so it will be interesting to compare Non SOP SC RIW, RC RIW, SC RIR, RC RIR and the Buckeye. The RC RIR hatching eggs are not dark brown eggs, but are nice sized. These eggs are from show lines. (Crossing the fingers for a good hatch). The RC RIW eggs are...
It has been like looking for a mythical creature… 😂 Rose Comb Rhode Islands… right up there with Bigfoot.
All Whites are supposed to look like this:
Reds… can have either comb type. There was a pea comb variety but it is extinct now.
Any way hoping for a few chicks of each.
RC = Rose Comb
I can get SC (Single Comb) Rhode Island chicks way easier. The Whites are not even suppose to be single comb, but the hatcheries only breed and sell single comb whites.
I am super surprised the RC RIR eggs arrived from OH already. I am waiting for the RC RIW from VT, but the weather has been rough over there I understand. The live chicks will be here around the 6th, those are coming from MO.
I am just hoping the eggs hatch. I know from experience how hard it...
As much as I am drooling over the idea… I have hatching eggs to incubate, and a chick order incoming, plus the birds I already got… oh gosh I got to be good, and sort this lot out and see where we are headed breeding wise. I will jus5 live vicariously through you… but I do think Standard Modern...
Yeah it is easier from what I have seen in crossings of other folks flocks to get the tail up then down, main thing I would focus on for squirrel tail besides angle of tail, is making sure it is not leaning right or left. I think a high carriage in birds would help accent the look too.
Not sure but we have 2 bantam D’Uccles… so might try down, but really depends on how the EEs mature. They all have beards and muffs I think. So that is good… little D’Uccle looking EEs would be cool.
We have kicked around two different ideas… breed our green/blue Eggers gown to bantam size… or breed up to Standard Size… you know both would be an experiment. But again depends on how chicks we are raising develop… light EEs are notorious for not being properly sexed… and I let the kids help...
