Nearly 9 months old…
Rooster Ray Monkey Llama (the Showgirl cockerel) is in with the main flock & is quite the gentleman. (He’s very ugly too, in my opinion, but the chickens don’t seem to mind his looks.)
Teeny (frizzle serama) & Tiny (smooth serama) went broody & have the five chicks I...
Thank you!
My kids named them. Not sure what they were thinking with RRML, but Shushpop is named so because when he learned to crow, he did so with his beak shut! That made them think of how I give them popsicles and they call them shush pops because it makes them hush up for a few minutes. 🤣...
I wish I had read that about Seramas! 😂 I would have sent my kids or hubby out to collect eggs when I was weak & achy! Oh well! We are enjoying the little surprises.
So far, so good with Rooster Ray Monkey Llama the Showgirl cockerel and Shushpop the Silkie cockerel (my kids name all our...
Final update:
Less than a month after my last update, all 4 pullets are laying now, and the serama sisters decided to have some chicks without my permission. Ha ha. I got sick in December and only checked food & water once daily (mornings) instead of also counting all my chickens and collecting...
Updates: the seramas are both laying! (1st egg Nov 15; 24 weeks old) Teeny, the frizzled, loves us and rode around in my pocket today! Tiny, the smooth feathered one, is very shy, but allows being touched when she’s on the roost at night.
The showgirl female isn’t laying yet. The showgirl male...
We only have one bantam Cochin (& one bantam Brahma). Both our bantams can fly across their runs & up to the perches. (I’ve seen a 20’ long flight and our perches are about 4’ up.) I’d say they fly just as much, but not more, than the standard hens we have.
My Cochin is one of the friendliest...
Thank you all for the votes thus far!
It’s our first time even seeing Seramas & it is shocking how teeny they are! Even at hatch day they were so much smaller than their Silkie friends. Now the big white male Silkie is the size of his “mom,” the broody bantam Cochin that hatched these 7...
Here are the best photos I could get of the serama mixes until they go roost tonight. For @PippinTheChicken and anyone else who would like to see them. Thank you!
Thank you! She’s easy to catch. (All the Silkies & Silkie Showgirls are except for the blue. He’s a wild one.)
I do hope her crooked & crossed beak isn’t a problem for her getting enough nutrition.
Thank you!
Yes, it does. The lady that I got the fertile eggs from said some of her frizzled birds do have feathered legs possibly from whatever line introduced the frizzled gene. 🤷🏻♀
I forgot to add the photo of their weights!
The first notes are from a few days old. (With my initial gender guesses)
Today I added this mornings weights too.
I understand! Last fall we bought 3 Silkie day old chicks and all 3 were boys, but the last one didn’t crow until six months old & was submissive so I was holding out hope for him to be a her, but nope.
Last spring we ordered one white day old Silkie chick, but it died after arrival (shipped...
Thank you! I created a poll too.
I thought she was based on no comb & the nice poof. I wasn’t sure what coloring she was.
What colors are the two showgirl chicks? The frizzled one had stripes as a chick. I just posted their baby photos too. Thank you!
I’m going to tag a few people from the Silkie Sexing 2.0 project thread. Thanks in advance for your expertise!
