I have no idea what happened to the next to last tray. They are in order from newest to oldest.
This is pretty much what happened when I had too much PH Down in the water. Very poor root growth on the bad one.
I mix the water and they all get watered from the same jug...

Seeing how @rjmyooper brought up micro greens I started some more and as an experiment I put some in a small container without a grow mat. I put enough seeds to cover the bottom about 1 layer deep. So we'll see if the micro greens make a nice root mass on their own.

I have some Spicy Salad Mix from True Leaf.
What's your procedure for watering and grow lights?
The grow mats I got are made of wood fibers and just falls apart when wet.

No growing mat for wheat grass sprouts... now I do have mats for micro greens and need some hints on making that work, the first time didn't come out very good.
As @gtaus said the wheat grass form a nice root mass that acts as a grow mat. My Cinnamon Queen hens eat everything, my Rhode Island...
Sorry for the cornfusion but the best PH is generally from 5.5 to 6.5 according to General Hydroponics. It's hard to read the PH with the test vial exactly so testing with different amounts of PH Down and viewing the results is a better test. I do know in the winter if I don't use 3 cc of PH...
The desired PH is 6.5, when the well water PH went down then I was down to 5.5 and got very bad germination and growth.
The only explanation that I can come with is seasonal rains changing the well water chemistry so in the winter it gets a bit higher in PH and grows some amazing mold and it...
Interesting turn of events here, spring rains started and it changed the chemistry of the ground water (I'm on well water). Whole trays started having poor germination and slow growth, so bad I was tossing out trays. I reduced the PH Down from 3cc to 1cc per gallon of h2O and like magic the...
Yes, I almost never see any mold maybe a couple of small batches since I started to acidify the water down to 5.5 PH. I harvest the wheat grass on the 6th day.

I was still having random issues with mold and after some searching came across the True Leaf Market and after reading some growing instructions on their web site I decided to try it their way sorta. So I ordered some wheat grass seeds and their PH test kit. They said micro greens like a PH of...
And then you get a bag of wheat grass seeds that grows mold no matter what you do.
I figured out the mold was different than the previous mold by looking at it under the microscope.
So I started trying different things to stop the mold and by the end of the bag I figured out that only keep the...
Here is the final design of my grass boxes. I used 2x6 and made them roughly 1' x 2' and capped the hardware cloth with 1x2's.
I did end up with a mole or something like that digging up from the bottom so I put down some hardware cloth a few inches underground to stop them from digging up...
I've reduced the soak time in 5% Sodium Hypochlorite (household bleach) and water to 15 minutes with no noticeable change. I need to run a sample without the soak as this is a new bag of seeds now.

This summer I've been having a problem with mold growth on my Wheat Grass sprouts. After some conversation with @gtaus in this long thread about my sprout experiments I came to the conclusion that the mold was actually on the seed shell. After some searching I found that some universities use a...
